A self study reader in urban theology covering modern approaches to ministry in urban areas. It includes extracts from key theological and social science texts on the city, and the Church's role in the city. The aim of the reader is to represent the diversity of local theories and cultural styles which are to be found in Urban Priority Area churches and to engage effectively with the social realities of urban deprivation in Britain, more than a decade after the publication of Faith in the City. This reader is designed as a study book for at least three groups of people: for people working in UPAs, whether as community workers, teachers, members of congregations or clergy; for those living in 'comfortable Britain' who want to understand and be challenged by the reality of social deprivation and the testimony of Christian presence and worship in UPAs; and for people in training for ministry, and for clergy preparing to work in UPAs.
