The Modern Automotive Technology Workbook is two products in a text study guide and a shop activity guide. It is designed to help you learn the essential aspects of automotive technology. It does this by highlighting the most important content in the textbook and supplementing this information with in-shop activities (jobs).
 
The first portion of the workbook serves as a study guide for the textbook chapters. The exercises in this section reinforce the material in the textbook, ensuring that you understand both the written and illustrated aspects of automotive technology.
 
Illustrations are used heavily in the workbook. After answering written questions on a subject or assembly, you will often be asked to identify related parts on a simplified illustration. This will help you more fully grasp the written material.
 
The jobs in the second part of the workbook are supplemental hands-on tasks. They provide detailed instructions for a variety of shop activities, such as servicing cylinder heads and brake assemblies. Other jobs cover shop safety, checking vehicle fluids, using service manuals, and servicing ignition systems. All jobs will help you develop the practical skills needed to work in an automotive repair facility.

This book is an educational resource used in vocational school which is used to teach students the foundation of automotive technology. Each section of the book will give certain information that you will learn throughout you read, following up with some questions to answer based on what you read. The theme of this book focuses on building problem solving skills and preparing readers for the real world for people who want to expand their knowledge and eventually maybe become automotive technicians. Whether you are new reading this book, this book will provide the essential knowledge needed to understand basic automotive and work on cars.


Something about this book that kept me interested to keep reading was that my career in the future was to be an automotive technician and with this book I can expand my knowledge and learn a lot more. The accessible language and clear pacing made the content easy to follow even when tackling complex systems like engine removal and repairs . I particularly appreciated the breakdown of detailed diagrams paired with step by step explanations such as the illustration of an engine component and what it does. These visuals helped me understand how the parts interact and function together. This book also gives you practice problem solving skills like the ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) near the end of the chapter testing your knowledge based on what you read.


This book is very phenomenal however it has very few minor things that can be improved, for example the pacing is really kind of long expically for readers that have low patience of reading and can get distracted by how boring the book can be and maybe skipping through the unit. The electric unit can be really confusing because of all these electrical labels and learning basic gauge of wire and also basic electricity of how much current, amps, or voltage are going throught the circuit. However breaking down these texts shorter to understand could help maintain engagement. Additionally while the diagrams are helpful some are too small or lack sufficient labeling making them harder to interpret.


I highly recommend this book to those people who enjoy cars, whether as a knowledge, hobby or as a career. This book is suited for beginners and students at school who want to build a strong foundation in automotive technology. The way the book breaks down each different detail with explanations giving valuable information of each different unit. For those who want to pursue in the automotive industry, I would recommend this book to you as it covers every skill you will need and also provides you practice problems for the ASE which later on you can get a certification. Overall I rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars due to its interesting and practical although the pacing and visuals could be improved for better accessibility. This is an excellent starting point for anyone who’s eager to dive into the world of hands on and diagnostics.
