"I'm going to be a brilliant children's leader. God is lucky to have me!"

Is this you? If so, this isn't the book for you. But maybe you're the opposite? You're a bit nervous about getting involved with children, you've had no formal training and you're not sure that God can use you to do anything much.

If so, this book will encourage you, give you some essential (and simple) skills, and thrill you with the joy and privilege of sharing the good news about Jesus with the next generation, whether you've been doing it for a long time or are just starting out.

If you are a children's worker, why not suggest this book to your team of volunteers, many of whom may not have had any formal training?

Alison Mitchell is convinced that teaching young people about Jesus is the best job in the world. She has trained literally thousands of children's workers over the past 30 years and is passionate about helping others to get as excited about children's ministry as she is.

Brilliant training book for volunteer leaders in your church. We read as a small book group discussing each chapter in 1 hour a week and opened some great conversations with them.

Books in children’s ministry are always being produced. But despite a plethora of books on the subject great books are few and far between. One of these few precious books is, Starting Out in Children’s Ministry, by Alison Mitchell, produced by the Good Book Company, is one of the greatest books on children’s ministry that I have ever read. As a minister to Children, Youth, and Families, I am always on the lookout for books which are aimed at educating leaders in ministry matters. This book allows a new children’s minister to get up to speed on how to do children’s ministry while at the same time having the scope of the book apply to any children’s ministry leader regardless of their title.
Starting out in children’s ministry, shines in its flexibility and is able to be used as an individual study or group study. Each and every chapter is aimed at a specific concept needed to energize and invigorates any children’s ministry, regardless of its longevity. Most importantly this book is grounded in God’s word as its foundation and seeks to help any children’s ministry leader proclaim the Gospel in a way that the children will understand so they may come to have saving faith in Christ or grow in his grace to become young men and women of God.
This is hands down the best book for new leaders in children’s ministry. I highly recommend it to Children’s ministers who are just starting out in Children’s ministry or as a refresher to how to lead in a God-honoring way and children’s ministry. Yet I even more highly recommend this book as a tool for Children’s ministers to use with their leadership. This book is a must for properly training leaders to impact children for Christ. I plan on using it for years to come to introduce new leaders to Children’s ministry as well as continuing to disciple current children’s ministry leaders so they may become more effective in their ministry to children.
This book was provided to me free of charge from The Good Book Company in exchange for an unbiased, honest review.

Think it might be technically cheating adding this to my goodreads, but it was a great book that I genuinely found super helpful, thinking about how we can best teach our children about Jesus, and how we can all have a good time doing it!

Practical and Biblical advice for working with children. The short chapters make it digestible while the questions and prayer pauses plunge you straight in to the wonderful work of children's ministry. Thank you Alison!

"...teaching children means a lot of seed sowing, often with very little to show for it." (p.65)

"You and I cannot change a child's heart. We cannot open their blind eyes to see the truths of the gospel message. We cannot unstop their deaf ears to hear the good news about Jesus and respond to it. That's God's job!" (p.67)

This is a fantastic little book, and not just for those starting out. The author was quite good at making it succinct while also filling it with a lot of practical information.
