Benjamin was hurt when the pride was attacked, and he’s had enough of the infirmary. He’s been stuck there for a week, and when he decides to make a run for it, the last thing he expects is to meet his mate in Dominic’s office.
Lucas knows about shifters. His best friend Heath is a bear shifter, and they’ve lived together for years. He’s surprised when Heath’s alpha, Dominic Nash, calls him and asks for his help, but before he can do anything, Benjamin stumbles into his life and tells him they belong together.
Both Benjamin and Lucas are happy about being mates, but not everyone is. Benjamin’s family suddenly arrives in Whitedell, and added to the hunter problems the pride is still facing, they’re not making life easy. Will Benjamin and Lucas be able to stay together even when the circumstances aren’t the best?
Catherine is the creator of several series, most of them paranormal, including the Whitedell Pride Series and the Gillham Pack Series. While she graduated in translation, she decided to go the writer’s way because it was more fun to create her own stories and characters. She’s been living in Italy for more than twenty years, but she’s a daughter of the North—Belgium to be precise—and she misses it so much that she’s already planning to move back. She loves pizza—probably too much —her pets, and of course, books. She sneaks some reading time in her schedule every time she has five minutes free from writing, demands from her various pets and son, and lastly, housework.
This was book 23 in the "Whitedell Pride" series. Benjamin is a fox shifter who was hurt when the hunters raided the pride. Ben has been in the infirmary for a week and he has had enough of it. When he escapes and goes to Dominic's office he meets his mate. Lucas who is human is Heath's bestfriend and business partner they run a ranch. When Dominic calls him and ask him to come and see him he is curious he wants to know what he wants turns out Dominic wants someone to go undercover with the hunters. When he sees Benjamin he helps him and Ben ends up in his lap when Ben tells Dominic that Lucas is his mate. This was a pretty good book Ben is still recovering from being stabbed by a hunter who he killed he is happy that he found his mate but he knows that it doesn't mean that they will mate. Ben has been hurt before by his family who put him out for being gay. When Benjamin's family comes to the pride for help he sees his brother and sister and he tells them that he found his mate his former home was attacked by hunters. I did miss Nysys in this book although Keenan did make an appearance. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
While technically a standalone all these books are essentially one long story arc with each book featuring a new set of MCs. So – you’ll miss a lot of “nuance” if you haven’t been following along but probably won’t be too lost.
Benjamin is recovering from being stabbed in the attack the hunters waged on the mansion. He’s a small, red-haired fox shifter who likes to keep to himself. Lucas is Heath’s best friend (Heath lost his memory but the two are starting over and still friends.) Lucas is 6 ‘ 8”! and also has red hair (despite what the cover looks like). Both Lucas and Benjamin know Heath’s mate, Jayden. Both men are relatively shy and somewhat loners – so they mesh well.
Most of the book is Benjamin healing and coming to grips with his new human mate. There is virtually no drama or angst in this beyond a very mild blip with Benjamin’s homophobic family.
We get a small taste of what’s to come in that Noem seems particularly interested in someone and one of the hunters they’ve captured is being kept separate from the rest because he has a mystery mate somewhere in the mansion.
Like the rest of these, it’s predictable but always nice and this one seemed to have a really nice and logical flow. I enjoyed it immensely and continue to be hooked on this (seemingly never-ending) series!
Catherine has a way of writing that pulls you in and you just don't want to put the book down. I get to the end and I am sad that I have to wait to read the next chapter. Ben was hurt in the raid and has to heal in the infirmary at the mansion. The day he decides to break out he runs into the arms of his mate. From there is where the next chapter of the story begins.
