Scarred Surrender

Rate this book
Book 6 in the Scarred series.
James’ inspiring story

His disabilities had never held him back, but the constant pain consumed him and the nightmares never ceased. There was no remedy, no cure, and no hope. He had to live with it or allow it to defeat him, and he wasn’t the type to surrender so easily.

She had always been there, but being Adam’s daughter put Crystal way out of James’ reach. Although the use of her alternative therapies might do something no one had done before, to cure him meant to touch him and he knew that would be a battle too far.

No other man interested her. How could they when his gentleness captivated her and his courage and bravery enraptured her. Crystal wanted no other, but James’ dedication and unexpected responsibilities, together with her new job, distanced them even further.

The tragedy that drew them together demanded more than his unyielding strength could bear. Reaching out to friends might assist him, but far from helping, going back to the Château in France only complicated their lives so much more.

Why now, amid vile accusations and murderous intentions, had he only just noticed her? His head told him to leave it alone, to put his desires aside, but his heart betrayed him. He wanted her with a passion that tested his fierce loyalty and steely control.

He didn’t think he could live with her when he couldn’t have her, let alone exist without her at all.

Scarred Surrender is a military romance, gently exploring the emotions stirred by disability caused by war. Contains sensual adult scenes and some swearing. Suitable for age 16+

I was born in Essex England during the mid sixties but I missed all the fun. Being only young I assumed that all Beatles were six legged creatures and Flower Power was something to do with the vigorous way my mother kneaded the bread dough.

My wonderful parents brought me up with a huge love of books. We read anything and everything. Bedtime stories were a treasured time of adventure and mystery. My sister and I sat wide eyed in wonder and to this day I worry about Dinah and Dorinda being pricked with pins because they grew so fat, and I never pull faces at the a waning moon (or was it a waxing one?) just in case my chops stay that way . (The Wind On The Moon)

I began reading romance while still at school. The fuel for many a teenage fantasy leapt from between the covers of wildly romantic books and my passion still lingers now for all those dark haired heroes.

My own beautiful teenage daughter persuaded me to write my first romance. She was only fourteen at the time and between books for children and adults. She couldn’t find anything that ticked all her numerous and particular boxes and so she asked me to write a book, with all the exact ingredients just for her. Though not just a book for teens, she enjoyed the resulting tale so much that she shared it with her friends and I eventually published A Perfect Summer as an ebook on amazon.

But I have discovered that writing is not easily stopped once you start. It has turned into a grand passion that I just cannot hold back. The fingertips start tapping the keys and ideas suddenly come flooding, far too many for just one book and so I began another and then another. Nine books later I am still nowhere near done. Book ten is on its way and only just the other night I woke from a wild and wonderful dream with book eleven fully formed in my head.

Romance will always be my first love but recently I was so influenced by a tiny polished plaque on a sea wall that I gave paranormal romance a try. (Echo Beach) Mixing the two genres was a real challenge for me but I was delighted with the result. Historical romance is going to be my next genre. All those fabulously titled and passionate men are impossibly hard to resist.

All of my books are Easy Reading Romance, intended only to while away a few hours with some light entertainment.

They are not meant to teach you anything or to stay with you for years after reading. Please do not read or review them if you are expecting anything deeper or more meaningful.

I hope you enjoy all of my efforts and I look forward to your comments and reviews.

I've read and enjoyed all of the Scarred books but even though I enjoy them they need better editing. And it seems to be getting worse as the series goes on - which is disappointing.
There is too much going on in some parts with way too much unneeded detail. And other things - plot points - are rushed and not satisfying.
It's also gotten a little silly. The chateau and its billions. It just stopped seeming possible.

I don't know. I'm sure I'll keep reading the series - I'm 6 deep after all. But some of the shine is off.

Having read this series from book 1 I am happy to say that it actually gets better with each book. Some I like more than others because of their leading charcters - and this is one of them - great read - good writing - interesting characters.

Still the last chapters made me want the next book even more I think - can not wait

So happy we finally got the next instalment in the Scarred series! Reconnecting with the crowd from the earlier books, but also some new ones - and with the exciting epilogue - it looks like we are in for more books with these great guys and women. Hurray!

The story starts sadly with the death of wheelchair-bound Adam, whom we met in several of the earlier books, leaving his two daughters in the care of James, one of his best friends who was injured in the same suicide bombing years ago.

As with all the books in this series, we get to spend time in France at the chateau meeting with all the couples from the other books and their families, and there is a mystery to solve, which seems straightforward but has a twist...

Really enjoyed the book, and looking forward to the next one which is hinted at in the epilogue (hope we don't have to wait too long though...)

Recommend to read the stories in order, so you get to know the various characters and their backstories, but can easily be read as standalone as well.

DNF 60%.

I gave it a fair shot, honestly. But the story was impossibly ridiculous and dramatic. Of course it revolves around another multi-million dollar inheritance, because EVERYONE has those. So the people inheriting sachet away to a chateau in France bought by a previous story's hero who - wait for it - had a multi-million dollar inheritance several books ago in the series. Must be NICE...!!! And too easy for the author, hello.

Of course, there's the weasel-y ex-girlfriend of the dead person who's after the cash, has no leg to stand on, but the hero stands around stammering out stupidity at the police for NO apparent reason... whilst bemoaning the fact that he loves a girl, but she couldn't love him, even though she all but THROWS herself at him multiple times in various negligees... Oh. and. UGH. For the love of Pete...!!

No. Just NO. I see no point to even continuing this. It wasn't the worst I've read, but it definitely didn't keep me. It was just badly done.

OMG! Scarred Surrender surpassed all previous books in this series. I am close to reading it again immediately.

The whole series stems around health facilities in France for war vets and I can't help but wonder if there are any existing places of said outside of Ms. Williams' writings. There are some extremely good treatments for soldiers dealing with actual and phantom pain. I am going to try applying towards myself in the area of mental healing. I know without a doubt this book will have a lasting effect on my life.

Thank you, Ms. Williams, for sharing yourself with this fantastic book.

Cheers

It's amazing to be reading this series. I once said that Joe was my favorite soldier from these books, but that was before I read this one, Scarred Surrender. James has taken that spot without a second guess.

I loved reading about James and Crystal: how they started to how they became one. I had all emotions flared up as I read this past two days. Sadness that pulled me to tears, smiles with a bit of laughter, and happiness. These two were meant to be together.

With that said, The ending! Wow! Alex you devil, what on earth are you up too?

I can't wait for more of this series. Jackie Williams is truly writing an amazing one! Cheers ma'am!

James & Crystal

I was thinking that maybe it would be Adam next but I didn't expect the funeral.

A little disappointed in this book with the fact of minimal love scenes or any sort of scenes except for one.

Also the Epilogue not even being about them but Alex. That would've been fine if it wasn't so quick to cut off.

This series gets better with every book. I love these scarred men with their honor, strength, loyalty, and fierce love for their friends and family. This next installment was a slightly different take on romance from the previous 5 and I loved it. James and Crystal are perfect for one another. Their slow build romance left me wanting more all the way to the end. This author excels at stories that grab your attention and leave enough push and pull between the H,h that you never want to put the book down. I really can't wait for the next one in the series!!

FANTASTIC read from start to finish. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this series. You'll love the stories and characters and grow to love the entire team.
