Promoting Adolescent Health provides discussions from a variety of perspectives on six problem areas. The papers at the beginning of the book provide an overview of the problems, and the final chapter provides integration for the various perspectives on each of the problem areas and identifies key basic and applied research needs.This book comprises eight chapters and begins with a general discussion of adolescent health and the developmental issues and challenges it currently faces. The following chapters then focus on the six main problem smoking and how they can be controlled and prevented in adolescents; drugs, alcohol, and the development of effective prevention practices; adolescent sexuality; coronary risk factors, particularly, stress and heart disease; health-risk eating behaviors, including dietary studies of infants and children; and chronic disorders and chronicity, including the conceptual barriers to the treatment of chronic disease.
