Alternate cover edition of ASIN B01I49BZAC

The last thing Jack Hartman should’ve done was leave the beautiful Gulf Coast and move to the Mississippi Delta. Despite his uncle’s warnings that he is being foolish and idealistic, Jack blames himself, because he hired Blues Singer Cici Cannon and she has met with near tragedy. Subsequently, Jack also loses the love of his life, Acey Kimmons because she believes Jack and Cici are having an affair. Frustrated with the family business and his loss of Acey, Jack gives up everything and moves to the Mississippi Delta to take a job as a factory manager in order to help Cici recover. Only after his arrival does he begin to understand his uncle’s warnings.
Southern Fiction and dark comedy at its finest, Tallahatchie, is aptly described as a “modern southern gothic,” story about a colorful group of rural southerners and Jack’s attempt to save the failing furniture factory where they work. With a cast of characters that become as real as they are quirky, author Rick DeStefanis weaves a tale that is as incredibly hilarious as it is tragic.

Definitely some laugh outloud dialogue and situations. I did like the book and extremely easy read, but the main character is particularly clueless not only in his relationships with women, but supposedly he took this job to improve this factory . Hes the golden boy but couldn't figure out how to get around the autocratic, racist, lying, cheating boss. There needed to be more story about ways to improve things to help the audience root for the underdogs more. Unfortunately some of the characters have so few brain cells you just feel sorry for them because there really isn't anything that can be done to help them.

I have to admit I had my doubts when I got this book. But I have to admit I laughed in almost every chapter.
The characters in this story and the situations at times had me in tears from laughing. I’m a Country Boy from the South. I can actually remember having people like JT and his partner in my circle( and it was a Cow not a Mule on my hunting trip). This is hands down the funniest book I have read this year. A hearty slap on the back and well done for the Author. I gave you 5 Stars because they wouldn’t let me give you more. You have GOT to read this book Sports fans!

Painful

The decisions made by the protagonist in this tale are often painful to him and the reader. But that’s what makes the story flow and the main character a good person. Action gets muddled in the middle but ends up as we first expected-our hero makes out good and so do some of his friends.

A real Departure from DeStefanis’ other book. very enjoyable.

Thought twice about reading this book but very glad to have completed it. Some funny, anguishing parts, but the book is an excellent way to spend a few hours. Great characters as well as an interesting story line. Treat yourself!

Excellent!

A novel to get lost in. Fast paced, no long, boring pages of dialogue. Characters are very well developed, stereotypes abound and some are hysterically funny, some are despicable! Southern fiction at its best!

WOW! I was not sure what to expect. The back cover of the book suggests a "modern southern gothic." Because I had read all three of DeStefanis' military/veteran fiction, I hoped that I would enjoy this book also. But, I was astonished how much more I liked this book than the author's military stories. It is definitely a different genre. But it is fantastic! Rick DeStefanis has proven to be a consummate story-teller. And the author paints an incredible picture of life in the poor, impoverished Mississippi, with water skis, and bass fishing, and truck stops, sweet tea, and trips to the river casinos, and deer hunting, and a crazy employee related to the sheriff, and Memphis Blues, etc. The main character, Jack Hartman, journeys on his own Homerian Odyssey, travelling to Tallahatchie to try and help save a failing furniture factory. The characters in this wonderful story are colorful to say the very least. The story-telling reminds me of some of the best non-lawyer fiction by Mississippi favorite John Grisham, like a Painted House. His dialogue is excellent. I think that this book will appeal to a much wider audience.
