This really ends up being kind of a relic, going over what was the new literature of the time, but that time was 1983. Some of the writing about it is beautiful, but I am more interested in what is happening now.
Even now, I think it might mean more for people who had read more of the contemporary writing then. Although I have read some more recent books by featured authors, I had only read two of the books mentioned (though there is a passing reference to artist Oscar Howe and I just saw an exhibit of his in December).
A work of lit crit that coined the term Native American Renaissance to indicate the rise in NavAm literary output starting in the 60s. The crit itself is just so-so and tends to be expansive and surfacey.
