Cassie grew up in a small town at the very tip of southern Illinois. A tomboy, she spent most of her time outside and got into big trouble for breaking the trellis while climbing out her second-story bedroom window.

When her family moved to L.A., major culture shock ensued. She discovered that grapefruits grew on trees, television offered more than two channels, and all the other girls had breasts. While hiding out and waiting for her chest to develop, she read voraciously, raiding her mother's bookshelf for Mickey Spillane when she finished all her Nancy Drew novels.

Another move took her family to Denver, the place Cassie still calls home.

She graduated from North Central college outside Chicago, got married, and returned to Colorado where she worked in personnel at the Denver Post and lived in a mountain cabin without running water. Upon learning she was pregnant, a return to civilization seemed prudent. She settled in Denver, raised two amazing daughters, and started writing for Harlequin. After her divorce, she took a break from romance and wrote straight suspense.

During her frantic years as a single mom, writing books and working odd jobs to supplement her income, she hardly had time to breathe, much less to dream. Then something remarkable happened. She fell in love with a tall, sexy man who was an aerial photographer and the author of tough-guy mystery novels. Fortunately, he loved her back. She found her real-life hero, inherited three more grown kids and three grandchildren.

Cassie started writing romance again, loving every minute of a life filled with laughter, crazy road trips, sailboats, and journeys to Oregon with long walks on rocky beaches.

Not too long ago, the love of her life developed inoperable pancreatic cancer. With supportive friends and family standing by, he died at home.

Cassie now lives alone, surrounded by beautiful memories. She has no regrets and considers herself lucky to have found her soul mate, the man with whom she shared a perfect love.

Not much to say. They story was okay.

Jordan Shane, a Florida resident and owner of a big time computer company. He came to Colorado seeking a divorce from his wife, Lynette. Their marriage was not well thought out and had been over for quite some time. She asked for a month to get her finances straight and then they could start the proceedings.

One night while staying in their massive house, he woke to a gun beside him and found his wife dead in her bedroom. His housekeeper found him over the body talking to 911. Everyone believed he was the killer and he was sent to jail.

At the time of his escape he didn’t realize it was a setup, but once free he went to the only person he knew that could help him. Emily Foster.

Emily was a big time nurse, but as more and more panic attacks started hitting, she decided on a more quiet life. She’s haunted by the father she never knew who died a hero in Vietnam. As she has more attacks throughout, she finds the chance to say good-bye.

He met Emily while giving the volunteer force she works with a donation check. Knowing she’s a nurse, he hides in her house and when she comes home, holds a gun to her. She didn’t find out until later that he never loaded the gun. He makes her patch up his wound to his face and his arm gunshot. Then he decides to take her with him into the woods since she would know how to survive and know the terrain.

Before he kidnapped her, she believed him to be innocent, but forcing her to go with him makes her doubt her initial gut instinct. For that reason she leaves a trail of their hike for the searchers to find.

Through they instant spark of attraction and witty banter back and forth, she finally realizes who Jordan is and that’s not a killer. Her discover almost comes to late when her trail is found and they are spotted. Angry at her, she has to beg him to let her continue with him.

They eventually go to her office where he wants to borrow a computer. They are found by her friend Dr. Spence, who takes Emily’s word and believes his innocence.

After a rest, he makes Emily stay with Spencer and out of trouble while he tries to find evidence. After 5 days of that, she’s tired of sitting around and wants to help.

With a narrowed down list of suspects, Emily attends a party of Lynette’s brother. There she is accused of helping Jordan and threatened with prison, but is able to escape with Jordan before that can happen.

The housemaid sees them escaping and hides them. She later tells that a friend’s daughter saw the murderer, but the mother won’t let her testify until her baby is born. Luckily it doesn’t long before the baby is born.

Unfortunately, Jordon come face to face with the true killer before any evidence can be collected. A fight between the men issue and just after winning he tells Emily he loves her before passing out.

Now a free man, Jordon drives to Emily’s to demand to fight for her after days of her silence. When he enters he finds the place decorated for Florida. Her new home with him.

Jordan and Emily were nice character. They fell quickly for the other and seem to have a bright future in front of them together.

I would've done five stars as the story line was good, characters were easily likable. But honestly, the dog got annoying to me. Only reason I gave it a four.

The suspense of the story was good. Jordan Shane had not been intimate with his wife in 11 months. He lived in Florida, While Lynette lived in her huge house in the mountains. He went to the Colorado to ask her for a divorce. He woke up in the middle of the night. He had hoped that his wife would sleep in his bed one last time. Instead he woke up and felt a metal object in his bed. He realized it was a gun. Jordan got out of bed, walked down the hall, and into his wife's room. He found her on the floor in a pool of blood. someone had shot her. He was arrested for her murder. The police never looked for the real killer.

Shane escaped, and is on the run. He has to find out who killed his wife. When he escaped, he was shot. He kidnapped Emily who is a nurse to patch him up. He knows that he has to hike, and knows he can't do it alone. Emily is part of search and rescue. Shane needs her skills to stay alive.

Emily flip flops on her thoughts of Shane's innocents. One moment she thinks he is a innocent man, but if that is so, why is he running from the law? Why did he kidnap her by gun point? Later in the story, she does believe him, and teams up with him, to find the real killer. Someone put a price on Shane's life. Anyone who kills him, will be paid a large sum.

good story, I just thought it was a little slow in places.
