A boy, his sisters, and their parents spend the summer each year at their cabin on Lake Martin in Alabama. As the boy builds a raft and floats in the clear water, he learns about the beauty of the lake and all living things. He works with his father in repairing a sailboat and teaches himself to sail. It is a look back at a simpler time during the Mid-Twentieth Century--a time of innocence and discovery. An easy to read Chapter Book for elementary grade readers.
The author is probably a few years older than me, but his memories of his time on Lake Martin as a child are similar to mine.
It's a small book, but filled with pleasant, happy memories of activities with his parents and siblings at their cabin and on and in the lake. Really a lovely read.
