Kingdom Family Devotional: 52 Weeks of Growing Together

Rate this book
This new devotional from Dr. Tony Evans and his son Jonathan Evans will provide both single and married parents with a resource tool to maximize those family devotional times, such as the dinner hour or bedtime. The family virtues–based devotional provides 52 separate topics, one for each week of the year, and five devotionals within each topic that will guide devotional times Monday through Friday. This is a wonderful way to build a spiritually strong family week by week, day after day―a perfect way to head into the weekend. Topics range from the basics of the faith―such as salvation, spiritual warfare, prayer, forgiveness, and discipleship―to essentials of living as followers of money, prayer, family, friends, and priorities. The subject matter is simplified so even young children can grasp important concepts. This is a perfect resource for busy families.

Family is the most important element in our country. Learning, growth, life lessons, and spiritual guidance all begin at home. We can't ever reach the world and cause a change without first starting in our own homes. Mr. Evans and his son Jonathan have written a devotional that focuses on the things that families need most and has divided the topics up by weeks. The book contains 52 weeks (260 devotionals) that speak to the needs of the families. Each devotional has a scripture that is to be read in conjunction with the devotional thought.

I really liked this devotional. I thought the authors did a great job of bringing their point across in each week. The thoughts were well worded and inspiring. Each day was short, but had a lot of content for thought. There were also some family activities that could be done with the devotional. The book cover was pretty as well. This would be a wonderful gift to give to that special family in your life or to use in your own family to boost your connection with each other and God.

I received a copy of this book from Tyndale. All thoughts expressed are my own.

I am very excited about this devotional. I have always enjoyed listening to Dr. Tony Evans messages and we have worked through several of his Bible Studies in our Sunday School Class. I am really looking forward to using this with my kids, when we finish up our current devotional book.

I found this devotional to be a wonderful asset to any family library and home. There are 52 topics covered that relate to family and living for God. It begins with Love and Respect, but moves on to the most important decision anyone can make, Salvation. Each theme is covered over a weeks time, generally Monday through Friday and families are encouraged to work through it together at the dinner table or other time they can gather for devotions. The devotions are not very long, but have great illustrations, and contain a Scripture verse to read, as well as, various activities families can do together that encourage laughter and bonding. Interestingly, at the end of the devotional, unlike other devotionals, there is no prayer. That is because families are encouraged to develop their own prayer time together, instead of just reading a pre-written prayer at the end of the daily lesson.

What I like about this book:
Dr. Evans is all about the family! Change in our homes, churches, communities and nation is going to start with the family. Strong families build strong churches, communities, etc...

I like that he focuses on themes our kids need to hear about and ways to apply this to our lives. They are relevant to today's problems, lifestyles, etc... Some that stood out to me were Purity, Respect, Self-control, Idolatry, Truth, Righteousness, Money, Fear, Courteous Speech, and that is just to name a few.

I like the activities that engage the kids. But I also think, it is possible, if you have older children, some of them may not enjoy participating as much as younger children would. I think it will depend on the age, attitude, and environment it is hosted in.

I like that this is a five day a week devotional. Most of us are extremely busy and just finding time to devote to family devotions isn't always easy. This gives a day or two leeway in case you can't do it seven days a week. (In our family we usually skip Wednesdays and Sundays especially because we are at church both those days/nights)

The only thing I found to "complain about is that the beautiful picture across the lower part of the cover is paper and doesn't stay on very easily. I would like it to have been an actually part of the cover itself.

I would highly recommend this book for your family! I received a free copy courtesy of Tyndale's blogger program to review. I was not required to give a positive review and all opinions are my own.

This new devotional by Tony and Jonathan Evans, KINGDOM FAMILY DEVOTIONAL, turns what often seems like a daunting task into a simple, consistent, and fun routine!

It simplifies family devotions.

We’re all busy these days, kids included! Carving out a consistent time to come together as a family over God’s word sounds simple, but very often isn’t.

The KINGDOM FAMILY DEVOTIONAL helps tackle that problem with family devotions that are short, clearly Biblical, and do-able.

There was a lot for me to like about this little book but here are the five things that were at the top of my list:

First, it picks a one-word topic and stays there for five days.
Good thinking! For five days the family can come together learning the serious stuff but weekends are for family fun!
I liked the way it came up with ways for the entire family to participate. Not always an easy task!
I liked that it is for all 52 weeks of the year. That builds consistency, and for me—that’s the real challenge.
I liked that it began with the topics of LOVE and then RESPECT. To my mind, they go hand in hand and are desperately wanting in many of today’s contemporary families.

So, summing up:

This book is clearly Biblical in it’s teaching.
It is a devotional that brings the focus of our family time around a single word for an entire work-week using the Bible as a life reference.
It encourages our family with fun ways to participate together and apply what we’ve learned.
And, it gives parents a simple to follow Biblical road map for their families for an entire year.

Easy, consistent, focused and fun—what could be better!

My sincere thanks to Focus on the Family Resources and Tyndale House Publishers for sending me this complimentary copy and asking me for my review.

Dr. Tony Evans and his son, Jonathan, have partnered to bring families the Kingdom Family Devotional, a year-long study of themes about spiritual growth. The lessons are broken up into 52 topics (one topic for each week) with five readings per week. This format offers a lot of flexibility so that families can either read together Monday through Friday or have two nights off each week on evenings when the schedule is especially crazy.

Topics in the devotional include Love, Faith, Self-Control, Family, Church, Worship, Money, Maturity, Fear, and Perseverance. The lessons include a Bible verse to read, a fairly brief devotional thought, and sometimes some discussion points or object lessons/activities that can be done with easily accessible items from around the house. This is really important to me as a busy mom with four kids. I don't want to have whole lessons to prepare before nighttime devotions. But if I can grab a simple object or two (like a glass of water, for instance) than that works for me!

In reading through these devotions, I liked the wide range of ages who could participate. It's not a devotional focused just on older teens or just on younger kids. It's truly a devotional for families and even includes discussion questions that help improve the strength of your own family relationships.

After reading Kingdom Woman by Tony Evans and Crystal Evans Hurst and hearing Tony Evans speak on several podcasts, I was familiar with his Kingdom Agenda philosophy which teaches that God has a comprehensive rule over every aspect of our lives which is demonstrated through the individuals, families, churches and society as a whole. (for more on this visit TonyEvans.org) This philosophy really resonated with me and made me excited to read the rest of the books of his, especially his Kingdom series so I was happy to receive this book in exchange for my honest review.

I am so happy we have this book! Neither Matt nor I grew up doing any sort of devotional time with our families and as fairly new Christians, we are always looking for resources to grow our own faith and help our boys grow theirs. This book is wonderful for the whole family with weekly themes which are then approached in a variety of ways through the week. With 260 easy to lead family devotions, this book will last a whole year if used as the authors planned for it to be used with one devotion every day Monday through Friday. Each Friday's devotion includes an activity which can be used just on Friday or which sometimes leads to more family fun and learning through the weekend.

We are still working our way through all the wonderful devotions and are eager to see what comes up next. I would highly recommend this title to any family looking to dive a little deeper in family devotions with little to no preparation required.

Kingdom Family Devotional
By Tony Evans and Jonathan Evans

This devotional is family-based, meaning it should be read with the whole family. Personally, I think dinner seems to be a great time to pull out this book. The devotional is focused around a weekly topic, where each week contains five daily devotionals.

Each day contains a verse having to do with the topic and then a mix of devotional, questions, and the occasional activity relating to the verse. While there is always a devotional of a paragraph to a whole page there is not always questions or an activity to do.

I was very excited to receive this book because I am a fan of Tony Evans. While not my favorite devotional, it definitely lived up to my standards of a good read. While this book had a lot of things I like I didn’t like how it occasional mixed in questions and activities. I like my devotionals to have a daily portion of everything they include such as a daily verse, daily question, and daily activity. I don’t like mixing it up to much.

Overall this is a pretty good family read. The verses relate well to topic and the devotional to the verses.

I received this book for free from Tyndale Publishing in exchange for this honest review.

This book is easily accessible for young grade school kids. There are discussion points, stories, and activities to do as a whole family.

For an entire year, you and your family will be able to dig into biblical truth and spiritual values. All while working on your family legacy! The short amount of time it will take to gather your family around the table will pay back in dividends when you consider your children and your children's children.
Truly a family devotional.

As a family, we are always searching for new tools and books to help bring faith into our conversations and play. We want things that are accessible for Sarabeth no matter what age she is.

Kingdom Family Devotional will provide you with a year's worth of conversation starters and activities to help your children - and you - better understand your faith.

Building your family legacy

One of the things I've begun to really ponder in the last few weeks is what our family legacy looks like. Some families have a motto or a phrase they live by. Some just like to wing it. I want to suggest that it's important you put some time and thought into how you live life as a family. Create a phrase or sentence that you want to live by. Start by basing things on scripture and biblical truths. Use books like Kingdom Family Devotional to help you begin to live life by your creed. And begin to set a legacy you can be proud to hand on to your children and grandchildren.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. This review is my own honest opinion.

I can recall my dad doing family devotions with us growing up. He would usually give a story and then relate a Biblical lesson to that story. While I can't recall all of the stories, as there thousands of them, I do remember the overarching theme behind them: do what is right.

Dr. Tony Evans and his son Jonathan have written a devotional to encourage a family to come together over the truths of God's Word. Each day there is a Scripture to read, a devotional reading, and then a call to put into action what was learned. The days are short in length, most being less than a full page, but that does not negate the impact they can have.

I recommend that this devotional be used as a supplement to the family devotion time that already exist. If you do not have a family devotional time, start with this devotional. It may be the tool needed to challenge the growth in your family as God-followers.

Kingdom Family Devotional by Tony Evans and his son, Jonathan Evans, provides families with a devotional tool to help build a stronger spiritual foundation.

The book has 52 different themes, one for each week of the year, and a guided devotional reading for Mondays through Fridays.

Each devotional starts with a Scripture reading that reinforces the theme of the week. A few of the themes which are included are Respect, Purity, Salvation, Friends, Integrity,Teamwork, Unity, and Wisdom. All of these are important in developing the character and spiritual foundation in our children.

Each theme has a story or an analogy to share which will help children of all ages to grasp the concept. There are questions to ask to prompt discussion following the readings. Included in some weeks is a service project which can be done as a family or by the individual children. Each week always includes a memory verse to learn as a family.

This is a great resource for any family and will help to keep children engaged with God's Word and principles.

This has been a wonderful devotional. Of course, I read through it in a couple of days, and not taking the time to truly explore the wealth that is within does not give me an advantage, but rather a disadvantage when doing book reviews.

Especially a good devotional for those with young children. Activities are included to help you talk to children of any age. Fifty-two weeks of devotionals, with five days of each week devoted to family Bible study. (Where were you when my children were young, and I tried to adapt Our Daily Bread for my youngsters?) Each week is devoted to a single subject, with each of the five lessons expounding on the subject of the week.

What a great team Evans and Evans makes in this series of devotions. After completing the devotional, I have now re-started it reading daily on my own since my children are all grown and live away.

This is one book I highly recommend!

I give it five stars.

And a big thumbs up!

Dr. Tony Evans has been one of my favorite Christian speakers for a long time. I've listened to his radio program The Alternative off and on for years and I have been a follower of his daughter's Priscilla Shirer and Chrystal Evans Hurst and their ministries for awhile as well.

I started reading Kingdom Woman which Dr. Evans co-wrote with his daughter, Chrystal Evans Hurst awhile back and it has been life changing. When I was offered the chance to review another book in the "Kingdom" series I jumped at the chance.

This time Dr. Evans paired with his son Jonathan Evans and created the Kingdom Family Devotional. If you've been following my reviews for any length of time you know I'm a sucker for a good devotional. We all lead such hectic lives that some days you just need a quick, little reading to get you focused back on what really matters.

In the world we live in today a family devotional time is essential. Having two tweens and a husband that works 50+ hours a week it's hard to get us all together. In the introduction, it is suggested to read the devotional during mealtime but for our family that doesn't work in our season of life. We haven't been eating dinner together due to my husband's schedule but he is always home before our boys go to bed so last month we started getting the boys to bed fifteen minutes before their bedtime and we started the Kingdom Family Devotional together. The boys were instantly hooked and we all loved how short the devotionals were. Every night I would ask about the previous night's topic and both the boy remembered! Having a child with Asperger's and another child with ADHD this says a lot!

This devotional has different themes for each week including love, forgiveness, servanthood, and humility among others. Some days you just read and discuss what that day's lesson is about and other days they have fun little activities to make the lesson come to life. I have to admit the games were fun for me and the boys but my husband didn't get into them as much as we did. There are only five readings a week so if you have to miss a day for whatever reason you have time to get caught up before the next week which is also important for a busy family like ours.

All in all, this is a wonderful 52-week devotional that could be read over and over again. This would also be a wonderful gift for any young family and really helps tie in all of the "Kingdom" books. I highly recommend this wonderful devotional.
