4 ⭐️ Concise detailed biography with good color plates and notes, inspires further study. Renoir’s friends and acquaintances includes a who’s who of other painters and also writers, such as Flaubert, the Goncourts and Proust. The whole crew is here in this little book.

Fezzi's introductory segment is dutiful and a bit plain, but concise and informative. The generous heaping of luscious Renoir plates are such a treat though. His paintings burst with luminous joy and sensuous intimacy. A very nice pocket edition to uplift a dreary day.

Nice paintings, my favorites were: "Diana (1867)"; "Moulin de la Galette (1876)"; and "Barges on the Seine (1869)".

Many years ago, when I was in graduate school at the State University of New York at Buffalo, I purchased some books in "The New Grosset Art Library." This is one from that series.

The format is similar for each as in this volume. The book begins with a short biosketch of Pierre-Auguste Renoir, born in 1841. Second is a nice (and brief) rendering of his output, placing it in context. The final text examines how critics have viewed Renoir's work.

But, for me, it's the prints that are at the heart of this volume. Among the nice color images of his art that I especially enjoy are: "Portrait of William Sisley," "Diana," "Barges on the Seine," "Moulin de la Galette," "The Umbrellas," "Gabrielle with Jewels," "Tree by a Farmhouse," and so many more. . .

This volume is very poirtable, being pretty small in its dimensions. This does not treat the artist in depth, but it is a nice addition to my library.
