Until the publication of this remarkable work, no single source could be used to identify and locate the records of the various countries of the Western Hemisphere. The Genealogical Encyclopedia of the Colonial Americas offers a systematic examination of the records of the colonial period in the Western Hemisphere to show the researcher where to find the most important genealogical records of the period and how to access them.
Good information, but thin on each individual country of South America. Colombia has all of 4 pages of information while the state of Vermont has 20 pages. And the pages on Colombia, while it contains some good resources of where certain collections are housed, the actual historical info it gives is not even factual--well, at the very least, it simplifies it to the extent that it's no longer accurate. Still, it's a good reference.
Very well researched. Some historical background information is given; other information is given as the location where you can find the original documentation (Civil Records & Sources) and it gives Suggested Readings for further research. Overall, helpful in my genealogical research as it pertains to the colonial time period of American History.
