A of one-hour and 30-min. documentary film based on the book, with interviews with survivors and soldiers and music by blues legend Ronnie Earl (a son of survivors) is also available on Amazon.com. This book (and the film) have just been accepted into the Reading, Mass. middle and high schools. A three-year project, the book and film received 2004 and 2007 Massachusetts Cultural Council/Brookline Arts Commission grants. Included are the 30 stories of Holocaust survivors and WWII liberating soldiers, as well as poetry, essays by community leaders, resources and photos. It is the only such compilation of Boston-area people and includes the stories of Stephan Ross, Sonia Weitz z"l, Israel Arbeiter, Samuel Bak, Rosian Zerner and others. "I Refused to Die" was featured on the April 26 Channel 2/44 (WGBH) "Greater Boston with Emily Rooney" and WBUR's "Here and Now" (NPR). Susie Davidson is a journalist and author who contributes regularly to the Jerusalem Post, the Jewish Daily Forward, the Jewish Advocate, Jewish Journal and other media, and has contributed to the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald.
