From these strong foundations, an authentic and robust Christian faith can thrive as we live and work in the secular arena. Discover solid biblical foundations to live out a confident faith in an ever-changing context.
Brian Harris write beautifully in a style that is easy to follow but packed with incredible insights. He is down to earth and practical, humorous and at the same time intellectually and theologically deep. His approach to the idea of Christian world view is refreshing in that it is less philosophic and more theological yet practically grounded too. A great read for anyone looking for answers on how their faith should influence their living.
A beautifully sane and balanced book. The author writes with both nuance and clarity. The style keeps you reading. Such a helpful overview of the big picture of Christian thought.
This book was exactly the right level for me. Not too heavy, not too light. It made me think in new ways. Chapter 2 (Beyond Proof texts) is simply brilliant, as is chaper 8 (Building a world with a better name).
By coincidence I ended up reading this recently published book alongside the older book of Brueggemann “The Bible Makes Sense”. They overlap on this matter of identifying the biblical texts that rise above all the others in significance. Harris comes up with a list of 15 though the exact number is not the point. He refers to them as the orienting texts. As I said in another review, we all do this in our reading of the text, but we do not always think about why we have settled on the key texts that we do. In his chapters on each of the orienting texts he does not add much that is new but it was good to read another example of how one thoughtful biblical scholar formats the whole of the scripture.
