Amira Rain is a popular author of a shifter and paranormal romance.
When she is not writing she enjoys dancing and going to the theatre. One of her big passions in life is chocolate and she has an irrational fear of spiders. So much so, that even a photo of a spider will scare her.
Only finished Gifted to the Wolves and Her Alpha Twins through to the end. They were okay. Interesting, though I didn't like the outcome of Gifted to the Wolves. I couldn't get through the rest either because of writing style or story. Most were just plain boring.
I have previously received and read a copy of the following two books from this collection in exchange for an honest review, which is given below.
Review for: The Lion's Mail Order Menage by Jade White 5-STARS This was a most extraordinary shifter story that I thoroughly enjoyed reading; it had lots of twists and turns that made it really interesting. Tyler and Caleb have known each other since birth. They were like brothers, but polar opposites; Tyler is the protective type while Caleb is a keen observer. Both were terrified of their fathers and for good reason because they were hard, angry men, who had been cast out of their Prides; Caleb’s underlying fear is he will end up like his father. At an early age Tyler and Caleb join up with Geno, one of the most notorious mobsters in New York City. Meena is both beautiful and a walking contradiction; the perfect package for anyone looking for a challenge. Meena’s life at home has become untenable, so at the age of 16 she leaves, but finds herself in a worse situation – she belongs to someone other than herself. Meena and her friend Kyra find out they have been sold to Tyler and Caleb as Mail Order Brides. The fact that Tyler made this decision alone, compromises his relationship with Caleb and it takes some time before he will forgive him. Meanwhile, Kyra disappears at the Airport leaving Meena all alone to make her way to her new home, fearful she may be sent back. Meena learns that Tyler and Caleb are not only gangsters, but lion shifters, but she still accepts them for who they are. Bella is Geno’s wayward daughter and has set her sights on Tyler, but when rejected she attempts to destroy not only Meena’s life but her friend Kyra’s too. I have no hesitation in recommending this book, as it was a pleasure to read. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Review for: Her Blood Protectors by Samantha Snow 4-STARS A fascinating and interesting story, which had I enjoyed reading. It is time for a new magistrate and Rose is the Diplomat chosen to oversee the transition. Rose doesn’t want the position - she is a hunter, a soldier, a tracker, not a politician, but it is exactly for those reasons she has been chosen. Brought together under one roof, Rose forms an intimate relationship with Zach and Aram; together the three complement each other, and even though they are human and vampire a bond is formed. But someone is trying to kill Rose, someone who doesn’t favour close relationships with humans and wants to return to traditional values, and they will stop at nothing in their pursuit. Zach and Aram’s house is one of the eldest and untainted by internal corruption and infighting, and it is for this reason they are tasked with Rose’s protection. But the enemy is not normal, a secret vampire organisation - a brotherhood of assassins - specially trained and always one step ahead of them. Suspicions are levelled at Vargas, but the Council have to be convinced of his treachery, especially when there is a lack of evidence. When an ancient rite of leadership is initiated, there are consequences. A good vampire story, which had an interesting plot and was an enjoyable read.
This set has some good stories that I read when they were initially released. I have reviews below of two of my favorite stories.
Gifted to the Wolves - Jayme's magical abilities have just been discovered and she is assigned to help the shifters protect the community from invasion. She is also given a secret assignment. The government believes that one of the alphas in charge of the community is aiding the enemy. Cameron and Elliot are co-leaders and Jayme is asked to get intimately involved with both to determine who is the traitor.
The community has many more male shifters than females so many of the couples involve one female with multiple male partners. It is a new lifestyle to Jayme but not one that she is reluctant to try. She is just concerned about how close to get to these two men without knowing who is the enemy. Cameron and Elliott are wonderful sexual partners but the doubts are causing issues for her. She doesn't know who to trust.
I have read a number of books by this author and she does what I call menage with conflict. In most menage stories, the men are friends or family or have some real connection to one another. In her stories, often there is a real conflict between the two and no relationship. There is mistrust between the two and it leads to a very different kind of experience.
I liked Jayme. She really embraced the changes to her life. She took on a leadership role. She is not afraid to explore her sexuality and let the men know her desires. Cameron and Elliott are harder to get to know. They don't get a chance to narrate and we get very little about them until the end. I didn't feel much of a connection to them.
The Tigers' Shared Mate - I have read many of this author's stories and always enjoy them. This one is very well done.
Two tiger shifters rescue a woman who witnessed them taking out some humans who killed a tiger family. They agree to claim her as their wife in order to save her. She begins to care for them but still wants her freedom.
Jareth and Carter are partners in business and share a home. They live a bachelor lifestyle and enjoy it. They can not find it in their hearts to kill Lydia and want to do everything they can to protect her.
Lydia loves the lifestyle they provide her and the concern they express for her. SHe had a traumatic childhood and wants freedom for once in her life. She wants a choice.
They are interesting characters and it is a story with lots of conflicts for them to resolve to find their way together.
I really enjoyed the wedding. It was a very creative ceremony.
I've now read 5 of the 10 and 4 of them were not 'true' ménage romance, just stories with a ménage scene or with 2 people sleeping with the same woman. Book 4 actually had a full ménage romance where all 3 fell in love and got their HEA. So, minus a star for that, as it fells a bit like false advertising. The other minus was the editing. Ugh. Some real stinkers in that area (using we'll instead of well, for example). Not enough to keep me from reading the rest of the book, but enough to have me putting it down a couple times to bang my head.
Some of the stories were good. I can usually overlook typos but there were too many. Past and present tense in the same sentence throws me out of the story. The cliches and grammatical errors were so bad that I could not finish reading 2 of the stories. Some of the authors must have just learned to use a thesaurus without being taught that although the words in the list may have a similar meaning they are not interchangeable. They need a good editor.
Some stories were hot, some were filled with intriguing storytelling. Regardless each novel held my interest some more than others. Not all held a worthy storyline and some became others. Amused I was and at times I found myself skipping over pages of sexual overture which became same old, same old unemotional overload.
If you like short and sweet. You will love all these short stories. Every couple finds there way in the beginning and makes it work. Oh and did forget to mention the stories are hot from beginning to end.
This box set offers a bit for each person. All are paranormal menage but some offer more of a suspense than others. Truly enjoyed reading and look forward to reading more from these authors in the future.
