I was already familiar with the events of the Battle of the Bulge (aka Wacht am Rhein), but I read this version from the children’s section of the library (probably on a teenage level, though) to squeeze it in because of other commitments. I chose this book also because of a group read from my World War 2 group on Goodreads back in December, but I didn't get to it until now.
The book does a great job of recounting the struggles of the battle and telling the “macro” story without a lot of detail, so it’s a good primer for reading other books on the subject. It not only has some of the lead-up to the Battle of the Bulge (with mentions of the Market Garden operation in Holland and the Huertgen Forest battles), it also goes on to cover the aftermath and the march to the Rhine.
Reading the basic overviews like this one probably won't give a seasoned historian any new information, but sometimes the brief glance can sharpen perspective, and that's what I have found, so I will likely read more from this series.
