The Helios Legacy

Rate this book
Juno has had an impressive career. She's commanded infamous guerrilla units, overseen POW camps, and now serves as the warden of Valhalla, where the male population is stored like cattle.

Her next assignment is the deadliest of all: escorting an eleven-year-old boy.

The Helios Legacy is a dystopian sci-fi western set in the snowy wasteland of Midgard, where a one-eyed heroine embarks on a journey of sex, violence, and self-discovery that could cost her everything.

Been writing and drawing since kindergarten, and always had a love of horror and adventure. As a grownup I also love jazz and fine cigars. I've published several books already, traditionally and self-published. It's hard to get noticed, especially these days.

I have a webcomic called Daddy's Girl on tapas.io, a martial arts drama set in Tucson, AZ.

I was given a copy of The Helios Legacy (Winter Agent Juno Book 1) in exchange for an honest review.

What can I say about Mike MacDee's novel, except hot damn? It starts off with a trainwreck, then zeroes back into the beginning to in a sort of flashback while simultaneously having flashbacks within. Juno is a woman who is a pure soldier, clearly, she takes no crap from anyone and is capable of taking down many with her. She is our main protagonist who we follow along with the story as she strives to overcome a horrid past, hide away her ambitions of a lost loved, and take on her most difficult task of all, escorting Apollo, an eleven-year-old boy to a place of utter hell before finally realizing what she needs to do most is to end the tyrannical government headed by a malicious benefactor.

This story has action and detail, and I learned a lot of new tricks from Juno who is very handy at making use out of anything in her grasp. I was pleased to see so many different variations of the characters, from their pretenses to their camouflage demeanor until hell broke loose. The characteristics of each were pleasing and I could picture these characters in my mind. Even their voices spoke differently, allowing me to see the differences.

Other than a few minor skipped details in some areas, and my wondering of starting the book off the way it had, I rate this book five stars. It kept me hooked, flooded me with anticipation of what might occur next and left my mind spinning. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys a post-apocalyptic book.
