I just couldn't get into this book. I didn't connect with the characters and their motivations. E.g. I didn't like how the heroine plays "detective" and then either tries to hide what she discovers or just flat out lies to the hero. Not really a good start to a relationship. Plus there's the whole "obstruction of justice" thing.

And then the timeline feels rather bizarre and disjointed. There's mention of a high school crush, then 10 years later... there's a one night stand, then 9 years later... there's a body discovered which was the result of a murder 20 years ago... that's linked to a court case 10 years ago... It sort of reminds me of those comic strips: "Meanwhile, back on the island..."

And on the subject of time, why wait NINE YEARS to pursue a relationship? It made the whole "I love you" scenes after that seem pretty unrealistic.
