Thorough, compelling, gracious, interesting, Biblical, balanced! The entire book was a fascinating read. A job well done by the author! This topic can be a powder keg in Christian circles and yet Bakss has written a volume that is hard to argue with.

Several sections which resonated with me were the ten ways people worship God or draw near to Him (all supported with Scripture); the testimonials from different age groups in his church, and the suggested policies for churches concerning music.

Whether you agree with his conclusion or not, you will be better off by having read this book!

To say Worship Wars is the best book I've read all year is a vast understatement.

Lawyer turned preacher Dr. Robert Bakss presents the case for worship music from a neutral perspective, and seeks to uncover the biblical foundation for how church bodies should worship. He tears into the decades long debate over "beat" that has ravaged churches, he furthermore presents the history of worship music styles, and by the end of the book, you have a full picture of what God actually expects from worship music.

Every chapter is backed up by verse after verse of scripture, and that's the big thing I love about this book. Even the few things I wasn't sure I agreed with or I flat out didn't agree with, the way that Bakss presents the Bible in its proper context gives a solid foundation that helps further shape my opinions.

If you're a Christian, and you've been discouraged by the traditional vs. contemporary music debate; if you've been tired of the endless worship wars; if you've long desired clear perspective on what the Bible says about worship, then this book is for you. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Great book, I learned that many good meaning people had repeated things that they were taught about music without really looking at the evidence. A good person shares their beliefs about music with good intentions and then it gets repeated. I accepted teachings about music without really considering them in light of the Scriptures.
They key is that we always have presuppositions. We tend to hear what we want to hear and we even hear God say things that He doesn't. I challenge you to read this book with as much of an open mind as you possibly can. Then wait 6 months and have another go at it. It took that for me. I will probably read it yet again.
The author went on a journey to find out the Biblical truth about music. He started out with the same beliefs that you as a reader of this book have been taught.

Robert makes a lot of good cases for updating worship styles and music while not forgetting the traditions of the past. I do feel like this book is a response to the low hanging fruit that his opposing side offers on a regular basis, but then again, it seems to be all they offer. Robert clearly and convincingly communicates his arguments. He does repeat himself somewhat often. Very good read overall.
