This is an excellent textbook to learn to read German. There are lots of "reading german" textbooks, but this one was recommended to me by a professor who is a native german speaker and accomplished scholar. I greatly appreciated the consistent use of example sentences with English equivalents drawn from various scholarly fields. the grammar also goes into more detail than the other book I've primarily used. the one weakness of this book is that it does not include building vocabulary or practice translation sentences, so if you want to practice the skills as you learn them, you have to get a separate source for those. The book does, however, include an eighteen hundred word vocabulary list at the end, along with several helpful grammatical charts that serve as great resources.
