She returned to school and received a bachelor degree in graphic design. In 17 years, her remarkable artistry creates outstanding achievement for a variety of customers.

Sweet story
A girl named Laurie finds herself fighting a dreaded illness. While alone and afraid she receives as valuable gift. Cute story. Needed more details of what the magical bear could do. The seven year old liked SAMI.

When I was ten my best friend died of leukaemia. This was a terrible blow to me as we had been friends since earliest childhood and I found it very hard to come to terms with the idea of someone so young being not alive any more. This little book therefore resonated strongly with me as it is all about a young girl facing this terrible illness. It is an ideal story to give children to prepare them for the idea of bad illness and the treatment some children have to face. Sami is a magical little character and the message of the book is ultimately uplifting.

Laurie is a young girl who is very active. She has trouble sitting still in class after she finishes her work. She is captain of her soccer team. One day she doesn’t feel as energetic. She gets so sick she can’t go to school. Her mom takes her to the doctor and they discover she has leukemia, a blood cancer. She ends up in the hospital for a long time. Her class makes her a giant card and a gift. Sami the bear. She is so tired she just wants to give up. Can Sami help her learn to fight? Great message of never giving up. It is a lesson kids need to learn whether they are fighting an illness or fighting to learn something new.

SAMI THE MAGIC BEAR: A Trip to the Hospital! would be a good book for a child to read if they have an upcoming trip to the hospital or they have a friend in the hospital. It tells the story of Laurie who is very active and plays sports. But she gets sick with leukemia and goes to the hospital. After being in the hospital for a couple of months, she is cheered up when she gets a card and stuffed bear from her classmates. After a while Laurie gets very lonely. But when Sami the magical bear comes alive and talks to her she isn't lonely any more. Being sick was hard but she gets better and back to her old self. Having Sami with her through it all made it much easier for her.
This book explains leukemia and what it's like going to the doctor, getting tests and being in the hospital. Sami is a cute little magic bear that helps in telling the story in a way children can understand so they wouldn't be afraid if they ever have to go to the hospital. I found the illustrations helped keep my youngster's attention while reading to her.
I did receive a copy of this book from Murielle Bourdon but I am reviewing it on my own as I do with everything I read. Not because I was asked to.

Sami the Magic Bear series are fun filled adventures that teach important kid-sized lessons!
I met a little furry kid advocate today and the pleasure was all mine. Well, actually ours, because it was my pleasure to share an adventure with my favorite young reader.
Sami the Magic Bear is truly the heart at the center of a heart-warming children’s book series. We will certainly begin the search to connect with the rest of the current series and look forward to sharing those and future stories and each new message with my own young adventurers.
In this Sami the Magic Bear adventure, the story revolves around a very real world challenge, that is believable, but quite simply too bewildering for a young person to handle all alone. Sami provides just the right combination of magic, friendship and encouragement to allow the real heroine of the story, young Laurie to work through her challenges.
Young readers and their families will love Sami the Magic Bear and will look forward to following him step by step through each new adventure.

The author approached me through e-Mail asking if I'd like to review the 2 *Sami* books. I looked into the website a little bit, and saw this as something children would enjoy and learn from, so I gladly accepted. The author gifted me copies of the 2 *Sami* books, in exchange for an honest review. That will not influence my review in any way.

The doctor diagnoses her with blood cancer, making her feel depressed to the point of giving up. Luckily, her classmates give her Sami the Magic Bear, and he is a constant provider of inspiration. This turns her life around, causing her to beat the cancer.
She returns to school, and everything is the same as before - which is slightly unbelievable.

SAMI THE MAGIC BEAR: A Trip to the Hospital! is a must read. Sami is back again to help Laurie. Laurie finds out she is ill and must go to the hospital. She is in a germ free environment. Laurie becomes lonely and very depressed. Her class sends her a gift -- Sami. He tells her that he is a magic. What else did Sami tell Laurie? Did Laurie get well? What happened between Laurie and Sami? You've got to read this to your child/grandchild to find out. This is another great Magic Sami book by Murielle Bourdon. I gave it 5 stars but wish I could give it more and I highly recommend it to all. I now wait for the next Magic Sami book.

The hero of this story, the eponymous Sami, is a toy bear. He is given to a little girl by her school friends when she is no longer able to attend school because she is being treated for leukaemia. Sami is there through all Laurie’s trials and tribulations, allaying her fears and providing comfort. Children who may be facing illness and hospitalisation will find this little book helps them to understand what is going on in their troubling world.

Cute book!
This is a cute book for any kid but would be nice for a child fighting an illness. The pictures are cute and very colorful and the story is involved but short enough to keep young children interested. This is a nice book and I would recommend this to other parents! I received a free copy of this book for review purposes. The opinions are my own and honest.

Sami the Magic Bear: A Trip to the Hospital!

The graphics in Sami the Magic Bear are gorgeous. They are bright and engaging. While they are not highly detailed that is on purpose and for their style, they are well shaded. The pictures even transfer over well onto the e-ink screen of a Kindle.
The overall book length is fairly good. It is a bit wordy for a book intended for a child as young as five. The writing is average. It is a little choppy in places. There are times where I had to stop and reread sentences because they were not written very well. This was confusing as an adult, this is not acceptable for a children's audience. It could use one more good edit.
The audience of the book is questionable. It states that it is for children between the ages of five to eleven.The title would suggest that the book is geared towards explaining what would happen when they go to a hospital. I expected it to be more of a social story type of book. It is nothing close. Instead, the plot is about a girl who gets diagnosed with leukemia and has an extended stay in the hospital. When she wants to die she ends up getting a magic bear as a gift. The magic bear gives her the strength to live. The topic is a bit too much for a children's book. Yet I also wouldn't say it is appropriate for a child who is actually dealing with cancer. It would not help a child with cancer to identify with another child going through the same situation, there is nothing that would help a child with cancer learn what will happen to them at the hospital. What you have is a book written in an extremely light and whimsical tone that happens to feature a child who wants to give up on life. I was a bit mystified about why this book was written this way. It doesn't really seem appropriate for anyone.
Why the graphics and general premise of the stories are amazing, the writing and execution are not as much. I think Bourdon would really benefit from co-producing with her designing and someone else writing.

In this children’s book, adult things are talked about. Many of us would like if we didn’t have to talk about these things to kids, but the reality is that it has become quite important. In this tale, a young girl, Laurie, has leukemia and has to go to the hospital. Luckily, there is a bear, Sami, that helps her get through the harrowing ordeal and makes her believe in herself once again. He also talks to her and becomes a friend in her loneliest moments. I found the tale absolutely heartbreaking, but also pretty believable, especially throughout the beginning and middle. I recommend reading this with your kids if they know someone that is going through any type of cancer, so they can understand a bit more about what is going on. The overall message is hopeful and positive, which is something that everyone needs most of the time, whether they are going through major problems or not.

I found this book to be good and very sad at the same time. Any time you see or hear about a child being diagnosed with leukemia is heartbreaking -- even in a book.
I'm very glad that Murielle Bourdon wrote this story because I think it's an important one for kids that have perhaps been diagnosed with leukemia (or another type of cancer or life threatening disease) and feel like giving up. I think a lot of times adults don't realize that even kids reach that "wall" where continuing the fight seems like too much. What is the point? Why not just let go? It hurts so much. Etc., etc., etc. Adults do NOT hold the market for self-doubt, self-pity, overwhelming fear and simply wanting to give up. Kids, too, need to be shown how much they are loved, how much they mean and bring to this world, what they can accomplish if only they can continue the fight and that they are absolutely not meaningless or worthless in this gigantic thing we call life. So, in a way, perhaps this book isn't just good for kids that are going through hell, but it's a good reminder for the adults in their lives to validate these children.

The book of: Sami the magic bear tells the story of a teddy bear who helps Laurie (a young 7-year-old girl suffering from leukemia) fight and overcome her illness. The story follows her as she falls ill, her time in the hospital and ultimately her triumph and resumption of normal life afterwards. I was thinking this story would have more pictures honestly. It was also a little too mature for my 4-year-old. She loves all things doctoral and is interested in hospitals and doctors. However, her attention started wandering towards the end of the book. I did like that it helps explain in simple terms, what leukemia is so that a child might understand it. I also liked that this book walked you through the things that might be scary and unfamiliar to a young child like hospitals, everyone in gowns and masks. I think this is a good book, but the subject matter is more suited to older kids.

Leukemia is any parents' worst nightmare for their children. In Sami and the Magic Bear- A Trip to the Hospital, Laurie becomes sick and is diagnosed with leukemia. Laurie was very active prior to this diagnosis, and becoming sick makes her feel lonely and very tired. One day, Laurie's teacher and classmates send a giant card and Sami the Magic Bear. Sami makes Laurie very happy, and less lonely. One night as she goes to sleep she says that maybe she just let go. The next morning Sami is alive and tells Laurie that she needs to be strong and keep going. This gives Laurie hope. Later, Laurie is released from the hospital and her life gets back to normal.
I try not be critical when it comes to reviewing children's books, but I try to review objectively. I did like this Sami story, but it seems like something is missing. I think it is a great story to help sick children when they need a lift or to be reminded to hold on and keep strong. This would be a great story for any kid, sick or not. It is very positive, and even made me a bit teary eyed.

Cancer in children is a heavy subject, but this book gives hope!!
Laurie is a very sick young lady. She is trying to stay strong but is losing the fight....until she meets Sami a magical bear. He is by her side when no one else can be. Will Laurie be strong and hold on to beat this horrible disease?! Cancer is a horrendous disease but in children it's devastating. This book might give a child hope. And that is always a great thing!!
