Poor Wayfaring Strangers

Rate this book
Poor Wayfaring Strangers is an anthology of frontier fantasy shorts created by six independent artists. The book will feature seven stories totaling 100+ pages, printed in full color.
Fittingly, a collection spotlighting the frontier as a setting also celebrates the new: many, if not all of us, tried something new in our creation of these stories. For some it was a new genre, for another a new art tool, for some a new format, for many the challenge of one more side project!

What a brutal, yet beautiful view as we stand in the Western frontier. The artists and authors all take this trope of the Old West and spin it on its head in these beautifully designed works. The characters are given options and must make choices that affect them greatly. Brothers fighting against brothers, restless avenging spirits, writing and voodoo mingle, shadows and tumbleweeds that have minds of their own, and get togethers that end in reminiscing of old friends find new life in these stories.

I bought this on a whim during a sale, and anthologies can be such a hit and miss, but this one is actually very good! Neat storytelling and very high-quality art throughout all of the stories, basically. I noted some of those names and I'll have to check out their other work. What a nice find :)

This was a really fun anthology. It's a collection of Western comics, some dark, some funny, all cool. The tumbleweed comic is obviously the best, but the others are all great, too. There's a couple that are designed as pieces in larger stories, and they're great hooks that make those larger stories very enticing. Even if they're not published yet. Oh well. But most of the stories are more self-contained, and very enjoyable as such. The art is excellent all throughout. All top-notch artists. All in all, this was a very good bunch of comics that are worth checking out.
