E. W. Hornung (1866–1921) was an English author and poet and also brother-in-law to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Hornung is known for writing the A. J. Raffles series about a gentleman thief based on a deliberate inversion of the Sherlock Holmes series. Hornung dedicated his creation as a form of flattery to Doyle.
John Kendrick Bangs (1862–1922) was an American author, editor and satirist. He is famous for "Bangsian Fantasy” genre in which famous literary characters or historical individuals meet and interact in the afterlife.

Ernest William Hornung known as Willie, was an English author, most famous for writing the Raffles series of novels about a gentleman thief in late Victorian London.

In addition to his novels and short stories Hornung wrote some war verse, and a play based on the Raffles stories was produced successfully. He was much interested in cricket, and was "a man of large and generous nature, a delightful companion and conversationalist".

The pop crackle and sparkle of a boys own adventure. Pace and Panache. While some phrases haven’t aged well the general tone and taut narrative still sit well.
