Explains the history of jewelry, describes such metal-working processes as hammering and casting, and illuminates design principles, materials, and special techniques for crafting original jewelry
Philip Morton was inspired to write this instructional text while teaching jewelry and metalworking at the School for American Crafts(men) and the University of Minnesota. First published in 1970, Contemporary Jewelry was in print for nearly 20 years. Inspired by the Bauhaus approach to materials and design, Morton was successful as both a teacher and an artist. His book remains a classic of modernism.
