Reunion
Three old friends, a beautiful mansion in the resort town of East Hampton, New York, and a few days carved out to spend together. It sounds like a recipe for a perfect reunion. But that’s not how it turns out in this novel about three engaging women and their long friendship. During their time together, each of them faces a personal crisis, set in motion by long-ago choices. Faith, Holly, and Charlotte, friends for more than three decades, are separated by geography and life circumstances. They have managed to remain close -- although if they met now, they likely would find little common ground. Faith is a high school teacher, married to her high school sweetheart, living in the Long Island suburb where they all grew up. Holly moved to California for college, and married and settled in San Francisco. Charlotte produces and writes socially conscious documentaries and resides in Bethesda, Maryland with her family. Despite their vastly different lives, the three women get together every year or so to bond and cement their close ties. Everything is set for their long-awaited East Hampton vacation, where they plan to catch up during long walks and talks on the beach, relaxing by the pool, and over leisurely dinners. However, their much-anticipated reunion is beset by unexpected developments, including a visit from a mutual friend from their past. He is only one catalyst that leads to the disclosure of long-buried and surprising secrets. Will Faith, Holly and Charlotte find ways to resolve their current predicaments without sacrificing valued relationships? Or will this reunion mark the end of what they hold dear, including their relationships with each other?

Totally fun chick lit novel!

Three high school friends spending a vacation in the tony Hamptons share not only their past, but their current life struggles. Faith, Holly, and Charlotte have the type of lifelong friendship that is enviable. Each woman is going through her own personal struggle and are believable and real. This was a breezy beach/pool read! The ending left me wanting more!

Reunion is a reminder of something I recently discovered during a trip back to my home town, for my twenty-year high school reunion. In essence, they say you can never go “home” again, but really, you can. The question is, do you really want to?
Three women, who have been friends since high school, arrange to meet up and have an impromptu reunion. Faith, married to her high school sweetheart, is the more practical one, steering clear of frivolity and anything even remotely related to indulgence. She simply can’t afford it, anyway. Holly is married to a man who pampers her monetarily, yet hasn’t given her the love or attention she craves in many years. Charlotte is the direct one, brooding and serious. That explains her penchant for the arts. Even though the three of them live such different lives, they’re still the best of friends, making time for one another when they’re able. Their relationship spans decades.
New to the mix is a mutual friend of theirs from those turbulent high school days; Sebastian. One woman had an insane crush on him. Another knows what’s it’s like to engage in an affair with him, and the other has no clue what she’s in for when he’s invited along on their reunion. Not to mention the layers of drama and secrets that everyone has managed to keep from seeing the light of day. That is, until they get together.
I appreciated the simplistic approach that Beth Brophy took with this novel, how each character flowed beautifully into the next. It was easy to understand the relationships between everyone, and the various motives that make each person who they are. It’s also easy to see how these friendships have lasted as long as they have, which makes it harder for the reader to deal with the fact that it may very well unravel, given how delicate the line is between serenity and disaster.
As with the people I reunited with at my own reunion, at the core of the characters is who they’ve always been, from adolescence and beyond. People may change, but not always. Or, you discover how much people can evolve, even when you least expect them to. It’s that up in the air scenario that keeps life interesting, and I found that in spades with Reunion.

Is this the first in a series, or was that the end of that story? If the latter, very unsatisfying. I want to know more clearly how things turned out with each of their stories (even though that I appreciate that this book was about the friendships and not about the individuals).
All in all, a well written chick lit novel. It engaged me the entire way. And perhaps that I care so much about the characters and their individual stories is a testament to the good writing. So instead of the 3 stars I'd give this based on my dissatisfaction at the ending, I'll give it a 4. (but seriously, if there is going to be a sequel, please let me know! :))

I won Reunion from a Goodreads Giveaway.
Although the description of the story was not inaccurate, the events felt underwhelming to me. I had trouble relating to or sympathizing with any of the characters. I finished the story, and it had a sweet ending, but I just never felt invested in it.
