Damian Garcia: PhD Drug Smuggler ~Book 2~
Damian Garcia: PhD Drug Smuggler The story of Damian Garcia and the international drug trade in opium and hashish by PhD students in New York City began in 1972. They first met as financially hungry graduate students. They combined their expertise and intellect in business, chemistry, banking, and law to develop extremely discreet and enormously profitable global drug smuggling and money laundering enterprises. The financial returns exceeded their wildest imaginations, growing into the billions of dollars over time. They invested in social services helping those in need, legitimate businesses and global investments that continue to prosper. Money laundering is the back end of the international drug trade, and converting drug money into legal income is an expensive, complex, and dangerous process. The family believed that brains always prevailed over brawn. As business grew, they expanded their product lines to include the finest Thai marijuana and purest LSD-25 acid. They manufactured the Thai marijuana products into six-inch opium dipped strawberry flavored sticks and new Park Roads cigarettes. The group invented the process for converting concentrated liquid LSD-25 into premium Aspirin-Acid pills. Their clientele included professors, artists, politicians, doctors, lawyers, accountants, and elite professionals worldwide. Global sales skyrocketed. When we re-join the group in 1978, they have taken drug smuggling to the next level. Using the investor-franchisee business model, they developed their criminal organizations into multi-billion dollar international drug smuggling and money-laundering enterprises. The group owns and controls over 200 legitimate companies and financial institutions worldwide. Those that knew would never tell; that was the family code. This is the continuation of their remarkable success...

By Chris Mosquera
This is a story of Damian Garcia, and the international drug trade in opium and hashish, by PhD graduate students in New York City, circa 1972.
It is a story of friendship, family, loyalty, and an exceedingly discreet and extremely profitable international drug smuggling business plan.
The business plan was a new combination of opium and hashish product, the family branded as O/H. The targeted demographics for O/H were graduate students at major university campuses, and nurses and doctors, attorneys, and accountants worldwide.
O/H became the professionals’ drug of choice worldwide.
The financial returns vastly exceeded their wildest imaginations, totaling in the multiple of millions of dollars. Significant monies were invested in social services by helping those in need, professional career development, and legitimate domestic and international business investments, which continue to prosper.
Money laundering is the back end of the international drug trade. Cash must be converted to income producing assets, such as real estate investments, or operating businesses.
Clean money earned from these assets can then be invested in more income producing assets, and the process continues. The more wheels spinning, the harder it is for the government to track.
The combination of both opium and hashish into a high profit, higher quality product, was a true marketing genius for the time.
It took the combined brains of PhD graduate students in international business, banking, and law to put into practice what they studied in school.
If only their professors knew how talented their students truly were!
Graduate students were intellectually curious, politically liberal, pro recreational drugs, opposed to most things establishment, and definitely against the police. They were the perfect consumers for marketing the opium and hashish business plan.
O/H grew to become an international enterprise, larger than many international companies, or small nations, yet unknown to all but a few.
Those that knew would never tell; that was the family code. The code has never been broken.
The mood of the country was fading from the glory of the Woodstock nation of 1969, to the realities of the Vietnam War of 1972. The music was changing, and free love was fading into free infections.
America was turning from a nation of peace and love to a nation of hate, violence, hard drugs, and hard crimes.
When we first met Damian Garcia, he was a street wise man from New York City, both in spirit and attitude. Damian wore his hair long with sideburns and a mustache. He always carried a pocket watch, like the railroad conductors favored, wore wire-rimmed glasses, and his clothing was mostly jeans or dark pants, a shirt and a sports coat. His body was build lean and hungry, and he walked briskly like a man on a mission.
Damian’s draft number was 69, which meant he was front line Vietnam War fodder. Damian was a peace-loving vegetarian, and dropping napalm bombs on innocent people in a foreign land, which just happened to produce the finest marijuana, was not on his agenda.
Passport ready, Damian Garcia was ready to move to Vancouver, Canada for the rest of his life, if the alternative was going to war. Graduate school was the only deferment available, and given the circumstances, it was an excellent career choice.
He lived his life in the shadows and always below the radar.
It was safer that way.
The story is through the eyes of Damian Garcia, looking back in another day, when life was more trusting, the social and political climates were more connected, and personal relationships truly mattered.
This is their story…

In the second book of "Damian Garcia: PhD Drug Smuggler" which I won through Goodreads Giveaways Chris Mosquera again ingeniously takes a crime story and flips it as MBA, Law and PhD graduates combine their expertise developing a highly profitable global smuggling and money laundering syndicate to support their philanthropy pursuits.
In this plot which begins in New York in 1978 Damian Garcia after meeting drifter and ex-military soldier Tony Rivers and his cat Riley at Rosie's Sweet Shoppes decides to expand their product lines to include the finest Thai marijuana and the purest LSD-25 acid which can be converted into Park Roads cigarettes, opium dipped marijuana sticks and Aspirin Acid pills. With organizational assets in their shared brainpower and tight family network, Damian uses Tony's expertise to not only bring back the drugs from Southeast Asia but to help build a long haul transportation company while he works on developing a relationship with the Nations. In return for using the reserve Damian agrees to put money into their programs building hope and their native pride, and in doing so finds a safe haven for his family if O/H Inc comes under attack for any reason.
Yet for all his plans and staying out of the limelight Damian discovers that there is a traitor in their midst, someone who's determined to see him dead so he can take over the organization. The story heats up when Damian and Tony are roughed up and threatened by DEA Commander Christopher as well as later by rogue narcotics cops intent on murdering him until Captain Gray Hawk and the reservation police intervene. With a kill order out on his life, Damian begins to ferret out information on a conniver he once thought of as a friend.
Although the plot focuses for the first part of the book on next steps in the drug smuggling and money-laundering business intensity and suspense heighten when a kill order is put out on Damian's life and he begins to search for clues to their identity, drawing on his connection to mafia Don Mario Anacapri. The concept for this story is innovative, captivating and tense as you wait for Damian and his crew to make a mistake that will bring the legal authorities sniffing around. Although well-written and smoothly paced I did find the dialogue unnatural and hoped for more action although Damian is a firm believer in violence as a last resort; yet that could change with the cliff-hanger at the end.
Infusing the story with high-energy Chris Mosquera has created characters who are multi-faceted and not easily forgotten like Damian Garcia the talented and principled entrepreneur who's smart and friendly but wary and often paranoid. A conscientious family man who's determined to protect those he loves he makes provision for their safety knowing the riskiness of his business. Lori Wilson his wife and an accountant is just as savvy in business but can be devious and dangerous. Tony Rivers is calm and smooth under pressure, able to quickly solve problems before they become an issue. He doesn't take orders well but is trustworthy, understanding the code of silence that's important to the business. Gershwin Grain is the lawyer who's cleverness and over-confidence breeds trouble for he and his family.
I enjoyed "Damian Garcia: PhD Drug Smuggler", a well-researched story that's very detailed and I won't hesitate to look for other books in the saga.

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.
It's the story of a drug smuggling ring run by PHDs. It isn't bad, but it seems to reaching for a 1970's style of sleaze, but is really too PC to get there.
