Achim Wollscheid: Selected Works: 1990-2000

Rate this book
"Achim Selected Works, 1990-2000" is the first comprehensive look at this multimedia artist and writer's work with interactive electronic art in public space. The book documents such landmark works as "Connective Memory", a work installed in a technical high school which digitally "samples" and stores the students' voices; "Nordpol Bridge", which turns the movement on a pedestrian bridge into an interactive light composition; "Kunitachi Sound Transformation", which involves the live translation of street and traffic sounds into sonic structures; and "Clapper System", a flexible network of drums that feeds back the sound of external stimuli. Wollscheid is an artist, writer, and teacher who has worked as an artist since the early 80s, and has collaborated with a wide variety of musicians and artists. His work in music has led him to a focus on the relation between sound, light, and architectural space, which he continues to pursue and investigate through interactive installations and performances. He is one of the co-founders of the highly regarded German multimedia collective SELEKTION, and his musical work has appeared on recordings alongside such artists as Merzbow, Pan Sonic, Muslim Gauze, and Oval.
