Even more so than getting married, having a child is a profoundly spiritual passage of life, as husband and wife enter a dramatic new phase in marriage and personal growth. At the same time, God brings their child into the world already primed to know and to grow in him. This confluence of transitions has new parents thinking more earnestly about God and what faith will mean to their growing family. The Newborn Promise Project presents inter-connected resources for today's new families to spiritually thrive alongside Jesus in this transformative season. What kind of parents will they be? Will they avoid repeating mistakes from their past? How will they spiritually nurture a new life? Couples don't have to wrestle with these issues alone. A body of knowledge found in the Bible and from Judeo-Christian experience throughout the ages speaks directly to them about this major life event. Created by Graham Blanchard's development team of parents, teachers, and pastors, the Primer examines biblical applications of the spiritual abilities to love, remember, seek, question, and persevere. It includes related Newborn Facts of Life; Learn, Absorb, Praise, and Connect planning activities; and content connections with Graham Blanchard board books for ages 0 to 7. The Primer serves as the companion for Your Newborn Promise Group Study. All Primer and Group Study book purchases will include a code for a free download of Your Newborn Promise True Story Videos for additional support.
The three authors write books for young children. As they were working on various books, they realized the great need for a book for parents before their new little one comes home. This book is written for new parents and acts as a primer for how to bring faith into the home and prepare the parents hearts for God. It acts as a gap stop between pre-marital counseling and when that bundle of joy arrives home from the hospital. Each chapter begins with a question, followed by an applicable scripture. Then follows the authors thoughts on how the scriptures answer the questions. Almost every chapter ends with a way that the parents can grow, learn, or make the lesson applicable.
While I no longer have a newborn, I remember those early days of parenting and wish I'd had this book then. Each chapter is well thought out and clearly written. While parts of it were a bit dry, I muscled through and learned a lot. As I was reading, I wished that there were questions at the end so that it would be easy to study with another new parent or a spouse. I later found out that it comes with a study guide. Overall, I think that parents of faith should grab a copy before their little one appears.
I received a copy of this book from Goodreads. All thoughts expressed are my own.
