Canfield has written widely on 20th-century US military weapons, and here focuses on The Great War for fans and collectors. Photographs are available of almost everything he describes, which include edged weapons, handguns, rifles, shotguns, automatic rifles, machine guns, grenades and launchers, trench mortars, the 37 mm gun, and flame throwers. Mr. Canfield is a longtime writer and expert about the history of U.S. military weapons.. He is a prolific author and two of his best books are "U.S. Infantry Weapons Of The First World War" and "U.S. Infantry Weapons Of The Second World War". Both are fantastic reference books. Very easy to read and loaded with hundreds of high quality photographs and diagrams. A high-end book worth every penny and an absolute must for the library of a serious firearms collector and military history buff. However ,because the writing is easy to follow, and not needlessly technical it can be a good book for the general reader with an interest in the weapons used by the United States in the two world wars. I highly recommend both books.
