Power in the Global Era: Grounding Globalization

Rate this book
Economists and political scientists, mostly from Canada with some representatives from the US and Australia, examine changing power relationships between transnational corporations, transnational capital, the state, and subnational groups. Among the conclusions they reach are that while corporations and capital are eroding the autonomy of states, states are not in danger and often even encourage deregulation to benefit corporations; and that if the wages of workers are depressed too much there may be a mobilization to resist. The 14 papers were presented at a July 1998 conference in Vancouver, British Columbia. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
