In Weather in Winter, beginning readers explore how winter's chilly temperatures affect people and other living things. Vibrant, full-color photos and carefully leveled text engage early readers as they explore how a winters snowfall gives them new ways to enjoy being outside.
I chose this book because there are a lot of children who love winter because they love the snow. This is an informational book about winter and what can be done in the winter. This book would be great for primary readers because there are big pictures and small vocabulary. This book can explain to kids the different types of weather that can occur throughout winter.
The book I paired this with was "The Storm Whale in Winter" by Benji Davies, a fantasy, about a whale who saved a boy. The book was about a little boy who had befriended a whale, but his father let the whale go and it never returned. However, his father was a sailor and went sailing, but he got stuck in a snow storm, and the water froze over so he could not go home. Eventually, the whales saved the boat, and everything ended fine. This book will is directed more towards intermediate readers because of the sentence structure and story line.
