A Field Guide to the Native Conifers and Shrubs of Placer County is an easy-to-use guidebook perfect for both the week-end naturalist and the more experienced botanist and nature lover. Filled with over 200 color photographs and clear, concise text for easy identification of the plants listed, this guide is well suited for slipping into a vest pocket or daypack. Plants are listed by common name and close-up thumbnail photos make it easier for the non-botanist to identify the species and then turn to a full description further in the book. A full Glossary is included with descriptive photos and definitions of terms used throughout the guide.
Robert Littlepage is a landscape architect who also worked for the U.S. Forest Service, Montana State Forestry and landscape construction companies. He is a licensed landscape architect in northern California where he lives with his wife and two dogs. His love of nature and curiosity about the native plants growing in the Sierra Nevada Mountains compelled him to write his first pocket field guide, suited to the weekend nature enthusiast, on the native trees and shrubs to be found within Placer County, California. Although his research was only in Placer County, many of these conifers and shrubs will be found the length of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He is currently working on his second book - a workbook on garden design that will accompany his online class on landscape design. In addition to his writings he also offers online classes and instruction on a variety of gardening and irrigation topics.
