I had the pleasure of seeing Chambers Stevens speak at an event and was so impressed that I bought this book for my son, who was just getting interested in acting. I read it before passing it on to him and was very pleased with the quality of the insights and monologues Chambers wrote and shared with his young readers.
One of the things Chambers said during his presentation was that actors need to memorize something every day. At the time, I had no idea what he was talking about but once my son plunged head first into acting it was very clear--casting agents expect your child to be 100% memorized for auditions and there is no lead time. You get a script at 8 a.m. and by the afternoon your kid is front and center. This book is a great resource to improve memory skills, as the more accustomed to memorizing your child is, the easier it is for them to do. (Practicing memorizing monologues also helps with school work.)
Some of these monologues will make you laugh, others will give you a lump in your throat. The monologues contained in this book will provide your young actor with the versatility they need to refine their skills and hone their craft.
We have had much success with the monologues in this book and we know that you will too.
In Magnificent Monologues for Kids, Chanbers doe the magic that he does so well. He writes wonderful readable and relatable scripts for kids. He also always give advice on the ins and outs as it were, what to do and what not to do. Really read that part, and then just have fun with the monologues. My daughter loves this book to pieces. And by that I mean she literally uses hers so much it is needing to be taped back together because she is constantly going back to this book to help hone her craft. Magnificent Monologues for Kids This is a perfect first book for kids who want to get into the business. This book is on our "must haves" for anytime we travel or go pretty much anywhere, even if it is just to the grocery store.
Did you know that both Mark Twain and George Bernard Shaw reviewed their own book using assumed names? Well this is my book. And I'm going to review it but not under an assumed name. I love this book. It started my career as an author and has brought thousands of young people into my life. I wrote it because kids told me they hated the monologue books that were in print. They told me they were all too dated. So Magnificent Monologues, a title the publisher gave my work, is my attempt to write characters kids loved. After I finished the book I tested it on young actor around the country. And made lots of changes. They gave me lots of good ideas. It is their joy that has kept this book in print for 14 years.
I first discovered this book on the bookshelf in my classroom 9 years ago when I started a new job as a drama teacher. It stood out from the other monologue books on the shelf for several reasons. First it was hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud as I read it. Second, it was age appropriate for my middle school students in a way that was very contemporary. The scenes feel like they are from a Nickelodeon or Disney Show. Third, the kids relate to the monologues as a joy to perform. It was because of this book, that I know own all of the Hollywood 101 series and use them all in my class.
I recommend this book as well as any of the other books that Chamber Stevens has written to assist young actors in honing their craft. My son Taylor Luke has been reading, memorizing and performing monologues from these books for 4 1/2 years. He continues to revisit the books as needed for audition prep as well as practice. Taylor has received many roles in independent Texas films over the last 3 years and I truly believe the books have helped my son grow in his profession.

This book is a must have for anyone with a child interested in acting. It has a broad range of monologues and it was just what my daughter needed to get started going in the right direction. She jumped right in and really had fun acting out the scenes! It's definitely worth every penny!
There is something just sensational about Chambers works. He has an amazing sense of what young actors today really need, and you can tell that by reading his books. Always looking forward to seeing new books from this author.
An excellent read! Chambers has very good insight on a variety of different monologues for kids. If you are a young actor or are the parent of one, this is definitely a good book to get some monologues to practice with and learn from!
I usually don't recommend getting monologues out of "monologue books" because the monologues can be dry, and for new actors, unhelpful with nothing to learn from. This book is a major exception. Chambers Stevens knows actual MAGNIFICENT monologues!
I have had the extreme pleasure of working with Mr.Stevens. Now Not only is the book one of the best kids monologues books out there, but he is a kid at heart and loves working with kids.
Minus the slew of grammatical errors and typos I came across while reading the first half of this, I think this book is an excellent introductory piece for kids who have shown an interest in acting, performing arts, and theater arts! I am definitely going to use this for future drama units with my students. I think there is an extravagant amount of dramatic and comedic monologues across a wide range of subjects. I think this was an enjoyable read for fun as well as it could be for teaching purposes and study. I may look for others like it in this series.
Chambers knows youth and knows the business. His books are probably one of the best tools any young aspiring actor/actress can get. I highly recommend them all! I have had the pleasure of meeting him when he worked with my daughter, and I must say he is amazing at what he does. Why get tools/books written by anyone but the best, and Chambers is the best.
I love Chambers Stevens' series of monologues! I started using monologues from his books as a young kid, and they're great! Witty, unique, and original!
