The Armor of God: Standing Firm in Spiritual Warfare

Rate this book
In Ephesians 6:10-20, Paul talks about the spiritual war every Christian is engaged in. When a person accepts Christ as Savior, he crosses over from the realm of darkness into the realm of light. He enters a spiritual war that includes Satan, demons, and angels battling over the souls of men. Sadly, many Christians live without any real awareness of this battle, and are therefore losing it. Satan is real! He is an enemy of God and the church. He tempts, traps, deceives, and kills, and nobody is exempt from his wrath.

How can we stand firm in spiritual warfare? Believers must know their enemy and his tactics (2 Cor 2:11) and be equipped with God’s armor. Let’s study this battle and our equipment for it with The Bible Teacher’s Guide.

“Expositional, theological, and candidly practical! I highly recommend The Bible Teacher’s Guide for anyone seeking to better understand or teach God’s Word.”

The Armor of God: Standing Firm in Spiritual Warfare is another book in Gregory’s group bible study series called the Bible Teacher’s Guide (BTG). This one is about how to stand firm in spiritual warfare.

Many Christians get excited when the talk about spiritual warfare. The excitement fizzles out in a short space of time due to ignorance and lack of discipline. This is where this book comes in.

Greg’s theology is sound and well balanced. Although he captured the fundamental spiritual warfare basics, he also gave detailed solid timeless teaching.

In the book he stated that that every Christian is in a war but ‘many Christians live without any real awareness of this battle, and are therefore losing it.’ He gave a bold statement of warning that that people give up their Christian faith because they took God’s armor off.

As he teaches on the armor of God based on Ephesian 6, he goes through each verse describing how believers can stand firm.

First, believers stand firm by being prepared as indicated in Ephesians 6:11. This is a conscious decision to prepare to engage. Amongst other things this includes know your position, the source of your power and be disciplined.

In each chapter he teaches on each element of the armor of God as follows;
• Believers stand firm by knowing the enemy, Ephesians 6:11-12
• Believers stand firm by fighting, Ephesians 6:13
• Believers stand firm by putting on the belt of truth, Ephesians 6:14
• Believers stand firm by putting on the breastplate of righteousness, Ephesians 6:14
• Believers stand firm by putting on the footwear of peace, Ephesians 6:15
• Believers stand firm by taking up the shield of faith, Ephesians 6:16
• Believers stand firm by putting on the helmet of salvation, Ephesians 6:17
• Believers stand firm by taking up the sword of the spirit, Ephesians 6:17
• Believers stand firm by praying in the spirit, Ephesians 6:18-20

As he concludes he wrote that, ‘Believers are engaged in spiritual warfare with the enemy of their souls. Satan and his demons are bent on destroying God’s works and his people.’

This book is not to be read as a novel but as a tool for transformation. It is a work book that will equip you to fight again the enemy.

This book teaching on the armor of God about which Paul wrote in Ephesians is profound.

It's biblical depth, understanding, and clarity are spot on. If you want to know what Paul meant for the believer spiritually, you will learn and understand by reading this book.

Recognition about what each piece of armor is/was used is important in understanding why Paul wrote of them in Ephesians. After you read this book and use it to study this passage of Scripture, you will know what Paul meant physically for his hearers and later Christians.

Could a person who was only a Christian write this study? Yes
So much better is the book because it was written by someone who knows military tactics and weaponry.

Because Gregory is a man of God trained in the Bible and because he has military experience, he is able to give a much greater depth of understanding to this significant part of Paul's letter to the Ephesians. We who are not military-minded can now understand why Paul taught this. Those who have very little or no training in how to study the Bible will understand the need to be on guard against Satan defensively and offensively.

Thank you for this concise and biblically sound book. I will tell others about it.

The Armor of God: Standing Firm in Spiritual Warfare by Gregory Brown is part of the Bible Teacher’s Guide Series. In this book Greg transports us to the scene of Roman war front where we find a Roman soldier. He portrays the details of every piece of the armor of soldier, what role they play and how they are vital in a war. With each piece of armor he brings a clear and concise connection to the armor of God and the need for us to put on each piece of that armor.

After pointing out Paul’s emphasis on a believer to Stand firm (mentioned thrice in 3 verses in Ephesians 6), which by the way is not a passive but an active stand, Greg goes on to give 10 ways in which a believer can stand firm in the spiritual warfare starting from being prepared, knowing the enemy right till the praying which is the most emphasized one.

Since this book is a part of the Bible Teacher’s Guide, each verse and phase has been thoroughly explained in points as you would in a sermon. I like the way he brings the actual verse into the pages as much as he can.

The spiritual warfare is such a real thing, the sooner we realize it, the better we can fight in it. It is important for every believer to understand the need for the armor, the purpose of each piece and the power of God in fighting this fight.

The pieces of the armor of God which were just facts in my head have now become practical applications in my life. I encourage you to grab a copy of this book and discover for yourself how you can stand firm in this spiritual warfare.

Spiritual warfare is not very popular in our times.

Christians who talk about it are seen as fundamentalist ranking on the same level as Islamists.

There are Christians who suspect demons behind every corner and blame them for ereything that doesn't work out as they think it should.

Others totally ignore Satan and his fallen angels as non-existant.

But "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Eph. 6:12).

What we need is sober-mindedness. We must recognize that Satan is real. That's no reason to live in fear, but we need to be aware of the ongoing battle and we need to be prepared.

If you don't know how this little book is a profound biblically based help.
With its questions at the end of every chapter it is a valuable guide in small groups.

The author sent me a free copy and I'm glad to help spread the word.

This book is about one of the most neglected areas dealing with the Christian life. It is about spiritual warfare and how the Christian is to live. J. C. Ryle once said that you can know a Christian as much by his fight as by his faith. Many books which deal with this subject go to extremes and are not really helpful. But, this is one of the best books that you will ever find on the subject.

The author isn't talking about theory but something that we all face in our daily lives. I cannot think of a better book to give a new Christian than this book. It would certainly be a wonderful study for discipleship classes. Not only for new Christians, blut mature Christians will find this book helpful. I found the discussions about prayer and how to use the Word of God to be refreshing and encouraging.

This is the first book that I have read by this author. But, if the other books he has written are of the same quality, a rich feast awaits anyone who reads. I highly recommend this book to all people.

The Armor of God: Standing Firm in Spiritual Warfare is another excellent Bible study by author Gregory Brown.

Based on Ephesians 6:10-20, the author takes all the elements Paul mentions in regards to the "armor of God" and explains in detail how each piece was used during Paul's day in regards to warfare. For example, when explaining the belt of truth he describes how the Roman soldier wore the belt and why it was crucial in a battle. These insights (some of which I'd never heard before) help make the study of Spiritual Warfare all the more interesting and easier to understand.

If you are a teacher, either for homeschool, or as a Bible study leader, this book will help you immensely. If you are a student of the Word, it will make your study time all the richer.

With reflection questions at the end of each chapter, the reader will acquire a solid foundation on why they have to stand firm in Spiritual Warfare and why they must put on the full armor of God each day. You will come out of this study equipped and ready to "stand firm."

Is the "Armor of God" essential? Gregory Brown answers with a resounding yes! This is a straightforward Biblical study that hits the mark. We have an enemy, and his goal is to destroy. Foolish is the man who enters battle without the weapons and protection provided by his Master. But this study goes beyond spiritual warfare, it sheds light on how and why one needs to stand firm in the victories won.

Time given to personal devotions or group studies will reap a beneficial harvest from this guide. The authors examination of each piece of armor found in Ephesians 6:10-20 will leave the reader with an understanding of their necessity. His reason for constant immersion in scripture and prayer will encourage those who know Christ, but have lost their way. His clear presentation of the gospel will offer hope to those who realize they are walking in darkness.

Take your time with this one and consider the Biblical truths shared; growth will result.

The Armor of God: Standing Firm in Spiritual Warfare, gives you lots of insights and methods of fighting our battle spiritually. I personally learned a lot from this book, the way it was co-related with life examples and support from scriptures. I highly recommend for young fellows because we are in our journey to achieve our dreams and often we don't acknowledge our battle against satan, when we do face the battle we often give up. The author having lots of his experiences and examples and provides biblical methods to face our battles and encourages us to stand firm during trials being fully equipped with our armor provided by God.

Brown’s studies are great for a small group. There is no homework involved other than reading the Scriptures involved and a short chapter. Each chapter concludes with four to six “reflection” questions to help you apply what you have learned. These questions are also useful for the small group leader in order to help open up the door for discussion each week.

I highly recommend this study. I found encouragement from the very beginning. Brown helps us dig into Ephesians 6:10-20 and offers up great insight into each verse. This study can be a tool that will strengthen you in this walk of faith.

When you had that "Aha!" moment about God and realize what it means to be saved, reading the Bible and working on your walk w Him is all you want to do. Although for a while we all are able to do this, there comes a time when we begin to stagger. Our motions aren't as fluid like it once were. This book is great for all of us because as Christians we all face some form of spiritual warfare. It reminds us that though we are weak that the God almighty we serve is strong and that He shall help us overcome! What an encouragement, eye-opener and reminder this book was for me! What a great tool to use! I recommend you to read this book especially when you feel stuck. I found it very helpful.

When Pastor Gregory Brown presented me with the opportunity to read his newest Bible study, The Armor of God – Standing Firm in Spiritual Warfare, I said yes without delay. Previously I had read his Bible study on the book of Philippians – Pursing Spiritual Maturity - and I appreciated that Pastor Brown is a solid Bible teacher.

Pastor Brown has once again has shown himself to be a 2 Timothy 2:15 kind of pastor and teacher. He is a workman approved rightly dividing the Word of truth. He preaches Christ and Him crucified.

Pastor Brown has done a thorough study of Ephesians 6:10-20 and it’s evident in his exposition of the Scripture. He uses Scripture to interpret Scripture. He uses Scripture to give examples on what we should do or not do, and take heed and learn from other’s failures. He shares some keen insights into the armor God has provided for the saints to wear so we can be victorious in this battle. Pastor Brown takes the Word of God seriously and knows the power of God’s Word in a believer’s life to help us grow in holiness, obedience and sanctification.

Something I especially appreciate about Pastor Brown’s studies is that he doesn’t presume that the readers are Christians. He knows that there will be some who are in church or in a Bible study, but not in Christ. He shows through Scripture how you can be saved from sin and know with assurance of your salvation in Christ.

I was challenged, reproved, corrected and encouraged as I read this study on The Armor of God by Pastor Gregory Brown. I highly recommend this Bible study. It would be good for the individual who wants to better understand Ephesians and the Armor of God. It would also be a good study for a small group or to prepare a Bible study leader teaching this passage.

Are you tired of feeling like you are losing spiritual battles? Maybe it’s time for you to dig deeper in to God’s Word and learn how you can be equipped to Stand Firm in Spiritual Warfare.

I would like to thank Pastor Gregory Brown for the opportunity to read his new Bible study, The Armor of God – Standing Firm in Spiritual Warfare, in exchange for an honest review. I was under no obligation to give a favorable review.

In his latest book, Gregory Brown continues to share solid biblical insights with his readers. This book gives a very clear, balanced explanation of the armor of God. It explains how we can practically walk a victorious Christian life by putting on each piece of armor mentioned in Ephesians 6.

"A powerless Christianity is a vulnerable Christianity- in danger of being enslaved and destroyed by the enemy." We have a real enemy fighting against us. Whether we realize it or not, we are at war. This book reminded me of that sober reality, encouraged me with the victory that is mine through Christ, and strengthened my resolve. What a refreshing and IMPORTANT book this is. Every believer should read this, study it, and apply the principles that Brown brings out from the Word of God.

While I loved the whole of this book, I especially appreciated the author's emphasis on praying in the Spirit, and how He breaks that down. Without prayer we can accomplish nothing, but if we persist in prayer and trust the Lord, He will do amazing things in us and through us. As he states: "When you pray with perseverance, God will give you the strength you need, the wisdom and power to conquer habitual sins, and everything else you need to live a godly life. Don't give up! Spirit-led prayer perseveres."

This book is doctrinally sound, challenging, and important for everyone who professes to follow Christ.

Mr. Brown has done a great job sharing what is necessary for us to have a more powerful and effective Christian life! What I liked most about this book is that, although it is written for a teacher of the Word, any person seeking to grow closer to God can benefit from it. It is written in plain terms so that we may be able to understand and apply what is written. He even explains the scriptures that are used throughout.

I also loved the questions at the end of each chapter. I'm a huge advocate of writing things down, and the questions at the end will cause you to pause for self-reflection and understanding.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and would suggest it for anyone who is looking for another tool in their spiritual arsenal.
