How to Be a Motherfucking Pimp

Rate this book
It is a complex book about pimping. Although it begins in the detritus of the worst elements of street culture, it moves to redeem itself in progressively more ornate and paranoiac systems of thought. Pimping is taken and sublated into ever newer and complex systems. Vast swaths of western philosophy are intersected. This largely takes place under post-structuralist rubrics. The text is performative and provides the basis of an ethics of intersubjectivity that occur in the other two texts of the 'triptych'. Despite all of this, it is still fundamentally a book about how to pimp. There are scenes of horrible violence and great brutality. However, this does give way as the figure of the pimp is held up to scrutiny and exploded. It will not be everyone's cup of tea.

Well, well, well. My boyfriend was talking about this book. For a while it was all flapping lips as I watched him in disgust, but then he started talking about chemistry and set theory. What's the connection? I asked. He said it's all in there. Really? I said. Yes he said. The book sounds like its for perverts and retards, I said. Yes, he said, and no.

Okay, so I downloaded it. It's free anyway. The beginning is disgusting, but I did learn about the "pimp game". As I kept pushing along for the promised "intellectual bit" (his words), I was both impressed and disappointed. Dazzle Razzle ratchets it up, but you need rather specialized knowledge for some of what is tackled. However, I do get the psychotic unraveling thing. It does move to dizzying heights and, from what I understand, a lot of what you encounter is meant to push you. There definitely is the "oceanic" feeling of psychosis. For this, I commend it. But, but, but...

This book cannibalizes pop culture, culture, kultur, kkkulture. It is racist and I found it uncomfortable to read. However, that seems to be some of the point. Strangely, I found it a rewarding experience, but I don't necessarily recommend it. I think a very rare temperament is required. Btw, I broke up with my boyfriend. Probably no connection, but...

The first one-third of the book is thoroughly engrossing, but by the 50% mark the author's satire begins to shine through a little too thick, driving the point home (to a near cringe-inducing degree) that one is reading the Icebergian fantasies of a nerd armed with a thesaurus on a creative writing bent rather than the life story of any actual "pimp extraordinaire."

Although this fiction is undeniably novel, because the illusion of authenticity becomes so thoroughly broken, I'm not sure I can muster the motivation to soldier on through the remaining half. But, for a free book, it's certainly worth a peek by anyone interested in the genre, if only to extract what enjoyment one may in the first ~70 pages before reality inevitably sinks in and cripples the otherwise promising momentum.

In the first third of the story you get shock value and casual violence. In the second third you get exactly what the title says. After that the book slips into absurdity and over-the-top philosophical concepts that are told in genitalia metaphors. And then there's more even more horrifying violence.
So if you're into that...

A Fucked Up Story About a Fucked Up Pimp.

I had initially started to read “The 120 Days of Sodom” when another reader suggested this book in lieu of T120DoS. Unlike T120DoS, I was instantly hooked by the first few pages of the book. It went straight to the point revealing the main characters overall philosophy. While it felt repetitive, the humor and slight truth in the ugliness of his words was enough to keep me engaged.

There were various points in the story where I felt confused and had to stop and go back to understand what was going on. Nevertheless, the author was able to convey a realistic perspective of a pimp and didn’t shy away from showing the disgusting side of the life.

These types of books are always difficult to rate because their contents are disturbing yet they’re eerily enjoyable in the sense that it was refreshing to read something that relied more on a hard truth rather than fantasy. That is not to say that the actions of the story are not deplorable as the story is clearly about the fucked up life of a fucked up pimp. I hesitated to rate this more than a three but I felt four stars was fitting considering I did enjoy most of the book.

One attribute that I did not like was the overwhelming amount of footnotes. They were added to clear up vocabulary and give the reader extra information but this sometimes became annoying as I personally felt some of the footnotes could’ve just been incorporated in the story itself.

Another complaint would be a portion of the ending. While there was a “plot twist” in revealing the background of some characters, there was also consequences to the main characters actions that felt a bit over the top.

There are a few other issues I had with the story but all in all I did enjoy my time reading the book. I believe it took me a little over two hours to finish it and I really only found myself skipping a few sections of the ending.

One thing I liked was the fact that the role of women in the perspective of a pimp was quickly established and never faltered. Their role solidified Dazzle Razzle as a piece of shit yet his fucked philosophy attempted to justify the relationship between a pimp and his “bitch”. This lifestyle lacks redemption as the mutual relationship between a pimp and his “bitch” is just money, sex and pain. Lots and lots of pain. There is no happy ending for anyone in this story.

In the end, it’s true colors bloomed by revealing perspective on a life I would have never have learned of otherwise. My heart goes out to all the broken women who have fallen for other Dazzle Razzle’s out there.

This is quite a dynamic and intellectual dialogue, certainly worth an unknown retail cost let alone a donation to its authorship.

Informative, enlightening, fun and frightening, I can sense the legitimacy of this work. It is a candle in light of the dark ignorant western world. It is utilitarian, professional, beautiful...Complete with branching footnotes and all the realness that is the human condition.

Thank you,

On the day the twin towers fell, I was not thinking about the Tolkien book. I was thinking about how this has another longer (better?) version. This one is pretty warped, but the other one I read is fucked. Too bad the site is down, but thankfully there is pirated stuff around. Nuff respect to dazzle razzle

Gratuitous violent scenes. Philosophy about the relationship between a pimp and his women. The women are playing mental movies for their lives in which they need the figure of the pimp to realize their own movie. This could be said about anyone.

This book is off the hook. But there are provisos. It does require a certain temperament, but the read itself should be reward enough. Sharing something of what Barthes saw as the jouissance of reading the like of Sade, Dazzle Razzle will take you through similar defiles. If you are interested in street culture and psychoanalysis, this could be for you. If you are squeamish, stay clear.

Lol. I mean, Lol. I thoroughly liked this book. It is ridiculous, but in a ridiculously good way. It spoofs everything including itself. I liked the pop shots at pop culture as much as I liked those on the highbrow. In fact, that was what I really liked about it. I liked looking stuff up while I read it.

Well this is such a great book. Like I cannot explain it, you just need to read this. The philosophy, the humor, the cruel world this book shows. It is both fiction and nonfiction at the same time. It shows the world or pimping and the Game. It is not for the faint of heart and contains brutality, sexism, rasicm, etc. So good luck.
