I knew Lear wrote limericks and illustrated them with simple cartoons, but I had no idea that he also made stunning watercolors of birds (and other animals). Apparently he was a naturalist before he began publishing poems.
This is a large book and the prints of the birds are all in color and very beautiful. If you love birds (like I do, I have six, or they have me I should say) you will love Edward Lear's paintings.
