The Winter 2007 edition of Slightly Foxed has added to my long list of books to be read. I added and have since read Werner Herzog’s ‘Of Walking In Ice’. And there are several James Thurber books already in my pile but this edition recommends ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ and ‘My Life and Hard Times’.
Other articles covered fun history books and diaries, the historical romances of Georgette Heyer, the massive Anthony Powell sequence of novels, the mad adjectives of DH Lawrence, the origins of the clerihew, overlooked Alec Waugh, and an entertaining review of how Dickens dealt with the topic of drunkenness and his own drinking habits.
