Stormie Omartian, bestselling author of The Power of a Praying® Parent , captures the heart of every parent, grandparent, and special caregiver in this collection of prayers and promises for little boys. Each page is beautifully illustrated with the work of oil painter Tom Browning―well known for his nostalgic paintings of gentle family moments. Page after page, a little boy’s adventure–filled life is depicted, special prayers are presented, and a loving opportunity for sharing is experienced. This special book, sure to become a keepsake, will capture the heart of the one praying as much as the little one listening. As the young boy hears tender prayers and sweet blessings whispered for his health and protection, faith and wisdom, he’ll draw near―and find a safe place to rest after his busy–boy day.

I love Stormie Omartian's books for guiding my thoughts before God into prayers that go much deeper than I would likely go without prompting. These prayers (intended for the parent, not the child) are grounded in God's Word. The illustrations are beautiful. They are what first caught my attention on the rack. The dress is early to mid 2oth c. which gives a mild suggestion that prayer is a bit old fashioned. On the other hand, I have another book whose illustrator used contemporary fashion at the time. Now it is a timeless story whose illustrations scream 1970s. At least this illustrator avoids that trap. Of more concern in this book is the total lack of any child whose skin is not lilly white.
Beautiful book for my children. I can't wait for my boys to grow up and realize that I had and have all the desires from this book for them, individually. Very beautiful artwork by Tom Browning, and wonderfully worded blessings from Stormie Omartian.
I highly recommend this to anyone who wishes for God's perfect will to be done for their little boy. For any Mama who has prayed and waited for their son to arrive, or worried and stressed that they are doing everything right by their son ... My husband and I have so enjoyed reading this to our baby boy, knowing it's not just about story time, but about proclaiming the Truth of God over his precious life.
What a beautiful book with such a beautiful message! It's a hardcover picture book, so Joe sat with me as I read it and loved looking at the pictures. I'm not entirely sure if this is a book for moms or a book for sons! We shared it, and I think that was best.
Each two-page spread featured a large watercolor illustration, a prayer for a specific aspect of a boy's life, and 1-2 supporting Bible verses for meditation. All of the illustrations followed a theme of water/waterplay/ocean. Joe loved pointing out all the pictures of boats! We also got to talk about the mommies in the pictures, and the daddies, and how they care for their little boys just like we care for him. Just so sweet. And the prayers are all short enough and written in clear enough language that you can definitely read aloud even with a young son.
2 stars [Parenting] Idyllic. Generic. One could switch every instance of "boy" and "him" with "girl" and "her," and switch out the illustrations, and call it Prayers and Promises for My Little Girl.
Theologically, it is seclusive and mildly deterministic. Every disease, low self-esteem, temptation, or absence of friends he can "connect" and "share" with are abjured.
