About the author

Dr. Mastrianna (1941-2013) graduated cum laude from Xavier University in 1962. He pursued his doctorate degree at the University of Cincinnati and joined Xavier's Department of Economics and Industrial Relations in 1964. While at UC he earned a M.C.P in Community Planning and the M.A. (1964) and Ph.D. (1968) degrees in economics. In 1970, when he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor at Xavier, he also became Chair of the Department. In 1980, he was appointed Dean of Xavier University's College of Business Administration. In January, 1986, he was appointed Acting President, the University's first lay president, a position he occupied through August, 1986. In February, 1987, he accepted a new administrative appointment, becoming the first Dean of the School of Information Science and Business at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. After serving as Dean for 15 years, he retired from Slippery Rock and was conferred the title of Dean Emeritus.
Dr. Mastrianna is the author of three textbooks in economics, one of which had sixteen editions. In addition to numerous publications, presentations and visiting professorships, he became the recipient of a number of teaching and research awards. Among his professional duties, he served on the Boards of Directors of the Union Central Life Insurance Company, and the Ameritus Holding Company for 25 years, and the International Academy of Business Disciplines, becoming its second president in 1991. From 2004 to 2009 he served on the Board of Commissioners of the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education, IACBE's Accreditation decision making body.
