François de Salignac de la Mothe-Fénelon, a Roman Catholic theologian and poet, wrote in France. He today is remembered mostly as one of the main advocates of quietism and as the author of The Adventures of Telemachus, a scabrous attack on the French monarchy, first published in 1699.
This book was unburied from a closet stack of TBR2, meaning, read after the initial TBR…
It was a fascinating foray into the mind of Francois Fenelon, a Priest at the time, writing to the Ladies of Louis XIV Court, in the late 1600’s.
Fenelon expressed a central theme of “forget self, loveGod” and with a common sense and rationality long lost in the 21st Century.
Many statements in these letters stand alone as a banner for Christian living. That the writing is formal Old English ( translated from French) and the vocabulary vast is a bonus treat.
The book will be retained for ready reference. Read it and be inspired to set God in His rightful place in your life.
This collection of Fenelons' letters will move you to follow Jesus in a deeper way; to deny yourself Read it each day as a devotional Francois Fenelon is one of my favourite all-time Christian authors
