When Tomorrow Never Comes

Rate this book
Evette is a sweet girl, a quiet girl, one that was stuck in the foster care system from a young age. After years of being passed around to multiple families that have only promised her broken dreams she finally finds the perfect place.
Evette has everything she could want. The love of a mother and father, even a brother and sister.
Everything is perfect until she makes one mistake, one that would cost Eve her boyfriend, Cole.
Not only does she lose Cole but she also loses his twin brother Liam.
After losing them and losing the family that she had come to love Eve once again finds herself being passed from one home to the next as she is haunted by Cole's memories.
They had had three years together. Most of their time together had been perfect but there had also been some dark moments.
Cole had always promised her that tomorrow would come for them both, that their life together would continue on. It was a promise that he was always supposed to keep, but sadly for Eve life had charged forward while Cole had remained behind, his life cut too short by his own hands.
With a broken heart and nightmares of what Cole had done Eve must find her way through the fog that has suddenly shrouded her life.
She must find a way to rid herself of the demons that haunt her every moment while being passed from one strange home to the next.
Luckily she finds an odd couple to take her in. They are her saviors, her instant protectors. Matt and Eric quickly fill her life with meaning again and with their help she finds a way to live with constant thoughts of Cole.
The only problem she ends up facing is how to deal with being home again, in the same town that she had been in with Cole. Not to mention that she only lived a few houses away from the family that had given her away so carelessly.
Now, she has to face her fears and face Liam.
She has to decide whether or not to pursue a relationship with the one person that reminded her most of Cole or to chase after the new boy across the street, Jayce.
Will she be able to love again, or will the memories haunting her keep her from finding the love she so desperately needs?
Truths are revealed and hidden emotions spring forth.
Only Eve's heart will be able to decide her fate, her heart will decide her future.

This isn't my usual genre of reading, but I decided to give it a go because I like this author's material. Wow, what and intense piece of reading! I will say, however, that if you have issues with bereavement, you might want to think twice about this one.

This novel addresses some serious issues experienced during a lifetime, and in this case, a short lifetime. Complex issues such as bereavement of people we love, and the road to recovering as much as you can from such a loss. The protagonist deals with these issues as a teenager, and as such experiences a perhaps more difficult time than those of us who are significantly older. The problems with letting go, waking up to another day, and in general trying to get on with everyday life.

The novel is written with sensitivity and insight, and is beautifully done with lots of tears. If you have dealt with these issues yourself, you will either immerse yourself in this book, or find it too much too soon. I recommend you give it a go.

I would like to thank Booksprout, the author, and the CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform editions for this partnership.

Evette is a gentle, calm girl who has been placed from home to home from an early age. For once she will feel good in this family except that she will make a mistake she will lose her boyfriend Cole as well as her twin brother Liam. She will find the joys of homes.

A book read almost in one go, I immediately hooked to the captivating story, moving and filled with suspense and twists.

I adored this book! It definitely pulls at your heartstrings, that's for sure. Be forewarned, the beginning is extremely depressing.

Evie is a foster kid who has been with the same family for three years. She finally feels she's found a home. She's even dating one of the boys next door. But with one mistake her world is torn apart and she loses everyone she loves; Cole dies, her foster family throws her out like yesterday's trash, and Cole's family blames her for his death! It was absolutely heart-wrenching to watch how everyone turned on Evie and treated her. She shipped off from one foster family to another. She suffers night terror, a side effect of finding Cole's body, and none of the foster parents wants to deal with the emotional trauma so they repeatedly send her along to the next home.

She finally gets a break, or rather - she runs out of available foster families - and ends up getting placed in the care of her case worker, a gay man and his partner. This loving couple were the one ones willing to help her deal with her trauma. The catch is, she's back in her home town. As if that isn't painful enough, she just down the street from her old family who have already replaced her. There's a new girl living her old life, sleeping in her bed, and hanging all over Cole's brother, Liam.

We eventually learn the details surrounding Cole's suicide; a love triangle between Evie, Liam and Cole. Evie struggles valiantly come to terms with her grief, in spite of the guilt she carries that her betrayal contributed to Cole's suicide.

She slowly starts to heal, to move on, and live life again. She has new friends and a new love interest. Too bad Liam isn't ready to let her go and Erie once again finds herself in the center of a tug of war between two boys. Can Evie finally let go of the past, and move on, or will history repeat itself?

Beautiful, heartbreaking, confusing and tormenting words and actions carried the storyline in this book. She has so much to deal with and no one seems to help her until Matt comes along. She's not perfect - she a teenager. I did think the young men in her life created more angst instead of helping. I'm not sure if the multiple partners rang true to me. She had been in a steady relationship except for one mishap as explained in the book. So when the author wrote her as being more permiscous, it didn't feel right. I did enjoy the book though and thought the author protrayed how one might feel should they ever have to deal with such a horrible situation. I did wish there had been a bit of a reconciliation with her previous foster parents and I thought his relationship with the new foster girl was very, very poor. The author did a great job of pulling me into the story with her ability to write with such great emotion.

For anyone who has lost someone this is a moving and emotional story. My eyes welled with tears until they spilled out and I had to catch my breath to keep reading. The trauma of losing someone, finding them in a delicate state, learning to forgive yourself and opening yourself up to love again is tiring with all the small steps forward and huge steps back. I applaud Raven K Asher for being able to write this story in such a human and loving way. I was moved and in awe reading this.

When Tomorrow Never Comes
Raven K. Asher

I was crying and screaming at turns. I just loved this book. I actually read it twice in a row. It was so heartbreaking for Eve. To lose everything at once, and then to have to build it all back up again. I don't think I could ever trust again. I think she was so brave. She was an amazing character. Her love life was a mess of epic proportions, but you just had hope. I loved her. What an amazing book.

Eve was given a bad hand to play with. Although she loved Cole, she still fell for his brother Liam. Suicide is not the way and the people that were left behind are full of pain and heartbreak. Eve finally found a home, and the love that she deserved with Liam. It is a story of the true test of our humanity.

Being totally honest not my favourite by this author, Eve did have a hard time, but the Jayce storyline spoilt it for me, he and Ben came over so well in the beginning and then the change made that part of the storyline obvious to what was going on, loved that Eve got her HEA in more ways than one, the stars of the book were Matt and Eric 😁

I've been put through the wringer of emotions here, I'm not sure who's team I was on, but eve was my true heroine to go through so much so young and Liam being an ass to her blaming her and trying to ruin everything in her life until he realizes she has blamed herself for everything without his help. A cracking read.
