In August 2007, Sophie Lancaster was viciously attacked and later passed away from her horrendous injuries. The only reason she was targeted was because she looked different.

Now, authors from across the world have come together present an anthology of stories inspired by the joy of individuality. From science fiction and paranormal to fairy tale reimaginings, fall into a celebration of life and difference, all to benefit The Sophie Lancaster Foundation.

Melantha - EC Hibbs

What a sweet little story, a wonderful re-imaging of the classic tale of Thumbelina. EC Hibbs brings through so much emotion in so few words, allowing the reader to experience the joy of the old widow as she waits for her wish to arrive. We also feel the fear and hurt of Melantha as she finds herself cast out for her differences. But the tale doesn't end there, oh no, Melantha finds her place in the world and everything is made right again, ensuring the tale ends on a high note.

Late Bloomers - Donna Milward

What a quirky story, a jumbled rumble of goth, eighties, hippy love and all the best of humanity wrapped up in a corset and wig! With the accompanying Angels wings and purring cats this story is a treasure of acceptance and love.

Dream Shadows - Rose Titus

Wow. Short but sweet in a shadowy sort of way. I'm unsure of whether this is a good ending or a sad ending, but the message is clear, don't just exist inside your dreams, but grasp them with both hands and make them your reality.

Moon Run - Bobbie Palmer

I can't imagine what life would be like to be missing out on any of my senses. Yet this is a situation that Bobbie Palmer addresses in this short story. Not only does Seren have to come to terms with the reality of a new pack and school, but the pack have to adjust to the concept of their being somebody with a disability. Only for Seren it's not a disability, and you see her strength grow as she finds her feet.

A Reluctant Roxana - Lilly Rayman

This is my own story, so I can't review it as such. So instead I will just say a little about it. My first published book An Unexpected Bonding is about the bonding of a wolf and vampire. I was asked the question of whether they could have children, and what would they be like if they did. The concept of Roxana's character was born, not as a child of a vampire and wolf, but as a pre-changed wolf killed by a vampire. Something entirely new was born. With Roxana came the strength of character to be anything she wanted to be, and it made her the perfect character for this anthology!

Un-seperation Anxiety by MP Ashman

Be prepared for a confusing tale of individuality from twins that aren't twins but in fact doppelgängers. I found it very hard to follow what was going on with this story, but the moral was clear. We are all unique, but sometimes it's who we are together that makes us who we actually are.

Trick - Ben Snowden

What a fun little jaunt with a man in a blue suit! It would be nice to believe that karma has a place in the world for a trickster who can give people a push in the right direction to do the right thing!

Unmasked - Allana Kephart & Melissa Simmons

This was a great story told by both Ward and Amy. How their lives differ yet are the same in so many ways. A happy ending for our special pair leaves the story with an upbeat finale.

The cuckoo and the mistletoe - FR Maher

Hidden beneath the simple layers of reality and fairytale lies a darker world. Joe never really remembered the importance of his grandmothers warning of wearing black until it was almost too late. I enjoyed this little fairytale escape from reality!

Kaleidoscope - Mari Brown

Just when you thought you knew who was who at the zoo, err I mean high school, Kiki and the Trifecta challenge all your perceptions! Kaleidoscope is a fun read from start the finish!
