The Incident
By: Andrew NeidermanReviewed by: Jane Krabbeler
Stars Five out of Five
Growing up in a small idyllic town in upstate NY, Victoria Myers always felt safe. The summer that she was fifteen was just like every other summer that Victoria could remember. That is until what Victoria and her parents referred to as “The Incident” happened. Victoria had been attacked and brutally raped while taking a short cut home, after a party at the lake.
Fast forward six years and Victoria has returned to her home town after graduating from Columbia University with high honors. Though the incident is six years in the past, the crime has never been solved. The community thinks of Victoria as damaged goods. That is why there is complete shock and disbelieve when The illustrious Bart Stonewall sweeps Victoria off her feet and the two become engaged. Why would Bart, who is the son of the wealthiest family in town want “damaged goods”? When he can definitely have the cream of the crop.
Victoria Myers is a character that is portrayed with such depth and clarity that you will feel as if you are there with her as she struggles to survive this brutal attack. You will feel her tears, her anxiety and eventually her triumph as she overcomes the stigma of being a rape victim. I was amazed that a male author was able to portray this issue so eloquently

There are a few plot twists that will have you second guessing yourself. Just when you think you have it figured out, well you don’t. I love a story that keeps me thinking.
I highly recommend that you pick up a copy of The Incident today. It has it all, love, breach of trust, betrayal and mystery. I promise you won’t be dissapointed.

Victoria Meyers, a rape survivor, comes home after graduating early from college. She knows she still has to heal the wounds left by The Incident. For her the one place she should feel safe, Home, is tainted by the ghosts of that night. Will she will able to follow her therapist's advice and finally let go?

Bart Stonefield is the ideal man every woman would die to be with. Good looking and rich, he is almost too perfect. After making it a point to ignore Victoria for years after The Incident he suddenly starts showing an interest. Victoria is thrown into a world of feelings she has been trying to suppress for six years. Are Bart's intentions pure? Or will he destroy her completely?

A multi-narrative book that shows the echo's felt threw out a small town in the 60s after Victoria Meyers is brutally gang raped. It shows how it can linger for years afterwards, not just for the people closest to the victim or the victim themselves, but in the community's pschye as a whole. This is a story of hope, loyalty, love, hatred, betrayal and ultimately... forgiveness.

I am amazed by Mr. Neiderman's ability to weave such complicated web. This book is a roller coaster from start to finish! A beautiful truthful look at the mind of a sexual assault victim and how she is given the chance to let herself heal. A must read for any fan who can deal with the darker stuff!

5 out of 5 Stars!

In THE INCIDENT, Andrew Neiderman has written an even paced mystery with enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested. He writes the main character, Victoria, with a great deal of insight and sensitivity, and he portrays life in a small town with realism and sentiment. While somewhat predictable, I would recommend THE INCIDENT to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense. I’m giving it 4 stars.

it was choppy but okay. It wasn't that suspenseful, but a nice quick read for the beach or similar.

The story was a good idea. And the plot ran smoothly from about the middle of the book but very slowly up to then. Not too complicated. Ideal for a quick read.
