Medical Cannabis for Chronic Pain Relief: American Veterans for Cannabis Therapy

Rate this book
Going forward, 100% of this book's proceeds will be donated to The Hope House for homeless Veterans and their families. This is an intermediate level cannabis book. This book is not designed for the beginner. A few chapters delve deeply into cannabis physiology and it may be more than a beginner will want to take on. This book takes cannabis education to the next level. This is an excellent book for those bored with basic cannabis books. It was designed for those needing and wanting more sophisticated cannabis knowledge. That said, this book is dedicated to American Veterans. Many Veterans cope with chronic pain every day. Veterans have been saying for years that cannabis has helped them with their post war pain, as well as their emotional and psychological stress. In many cases, Veterans are given opioid pain killers for chronic pain and in the long run this may only increase their opioid tolerance, work less effectively over time and may actually increase pain by becoming less effective with long term use. This book is not anti-opioid, rather many have reported that cannabis can also improve opioid efficiency and safety when opioids are medically necessary. Opioid tolerance and an eventual lack of pain killing effect have resulted in Veterans overdosing on opioid pain pills at twice the rate as the general public. This may be by accidental overdose or suicide. This has become an epidemic and cannabis as medicine needs to be addressed by the VA. This opioid epidemic is also creating thousands of widows and widowers. It is creating hardship on the surviving family members. There are now thousands of motherless and fatherless children because of opioid overdose deaths. Is this the best we can do America? I think we can do better. Many millions of Americans think it is time to explore cannabis as medicine in the military. Many other countries currently treat their military personnel with cannabis. Israel was the first and most aggressive country to do so, other countries have followed. The U.S. military can learn to do the same. Over 90% of the families and Veterans of the American Legion are in support of cannabis therapy for Veterans. Six of these books were hand delivered by Veterans to the top officials at the US Department of Veterans Affairs. This happened at a top level meeting in Washington, DC. 2017

Lots of references to source material

First, I am not a medical professional. This book isn't a fluffy one about the benefits of pot. I found it to be an excellent source of information with a lot of references that could be reviewed for deeper insights. It also tries to balance out the cons of marijuana. The chapters did seem to be largely self contained so if you wanted to view one specific use, it is accessible without reading the entire book. My one objection to the book is the comments about using the whole plant because of possible synergistic effects. While that might be true, it is only supported by one recent study. Because it's the only practical way most people will access it, I'm not convinced it's true.

There is enough recent research to make me feel there may be some validity to claims of medicinal uses.

I am truly impressed by the transparency of this book.

I am truly impressed by the transparency of this book. It is written in a concise and forward manner. I was able to understand the layman's and medical terms with ease. Being a Veteran and suffering from chronic pain due to traumatic injuries I find it reassuring that perhaps the future in pain treatment for me using CBD's to alleviate pain in the VA system is just around the corner. This book is a must reactor all Veterans seeking an alternative to opioid treatment.
