Written about the author's native Wales this is one volume of a set of three historical novels which begins in Amlwch in the 1830s. It features Taliesin Roberts, the years of his childhood, mostly hard, some idyllic, his development into manhood and his eventual conflict with authority.
Anglo-Welsh writer born to an army family in what was then Ceylon.
After retiring from the army he adopted Wales as home and began to write of the country and its history. His first, and best-known novel, the Rape of the Fair Country (first in the Mortymer Trilogy) was a million selling best-seller in its day.
A Good yarn that at times I thought I was reading a tale from the Mex-Tex border. Nonetheless,it was enjoyable with some cracking descriptions being painted across the landscape.
