I became a parent just a couple of weeks after my 24th birthday and a couple of weeks before my first wedding anniversary and few weeks into my junior year in college, completely unprepared but fully ready.

It's like adulthood in that respect. You can have all the coming of age ceremonies that you want, plans and strategies, but there's no real prep you can do for that transition.

But once it happens, you'll be ready, because its just life. You've been living it up that point, and with a few tragic exceptions when transitions to adulthood or parenting really break someone mentally, life just continues on, with its same list of completely unachievable demands. Same life, different flavor.

This doesn't mean you'll be good at it, as you can never really be good at life. Some good moments is al we can really hope for and an accumulation of mundane moments that add up to long-term significance.

This book gets that. It could be four times as long and not really have that much more to say. Either you care about being a better parent or you don't, and you can spend all day trying your best, but its really just about showing up and hoping for the best.

I currently have no children, but was hoping to prepare for the future with this. It was better than I expected, but the focus was more so managing yourself and your emotions rather than the child. I believe for the average person that would be a priceless read however I already practice mindfulness, so it became a nice reminder.

This was a really comforting read! It’s nice to know that a lot of the things that I have been working on for myself since the start of this pandemic, mainly yoga and mindfulness can be a mindset that can be used in my parenting as well. My biggest goal is for happiness for my kids and this book sets a good outline on how to deal with emotions, thoughts, insecurities, etc and also gives some life advice as well. Short read that I highly recommend to anyone, even if you don’t have kids.

Short essays on various topics ranging from mindful eating, power of sleep and outdoors for mindfulness; and dealing with emotions and grief. For mindful eating, it legit asked you to try it with a nut, hearing the sound as you pick on the nut, smelling it, feel it on your lips and tongue etc. 🤣
Strange as it seemed at times, it made me really understand what mindfulness is - being really aware of what is going within you so that you would be more aware of your surroundings too.
It also suggests a few mindfulness exercises with your children. I have a 1 year old daughter and the exercises are not yet relevant for her but I think the book is even at this early stage. It’s definitely a good way to remind parents to take a step back, reflect on your stress level and do something about it. I’d be sure to go through the book again as my daughter gets older and/or if there is any more addition to the family 😛

Meh. Not bad but definitely not good. Not much new information at all. Honestly the layout of the book was probably the most exciting

Took me a long time to finish, but great tips I’m already trying to teach my patients at work, so why not use them with parenting as well!

This book was one I started during quarantine and wanted to finish! It has multiple exercises for building better communication and each chapter offers a new way of connecting and maintaining a healthy relationship with your child(ren).

4/5 ⭐️ - I enjoyed this book! It really has made me think twice about how I react to certain situations with my son. I never put into consideration that the emotions he was experiencing were “too big” for him to understand. This book gives awesome tools for helping walk your kids through the tougher emotions!
