BLOCKS OF COLOR is a book of surreal horror. In a small town in Southern Idaho, everything is in question, and no one is above suspicion. Mayor Craig Goodhue knows something about what's going on behind the scenes, and slowly the pieces are unraveled to reveal the bizarre, horrifying truth. This bloody, stark, yet empathetic novel will transport readers to the troubled town of Farr's Field, a town that is not so unlike their own...
Hearkening back to the heyday of horror fiction in the 80's and 90's, Allred's book is an homage to the greats: John Farris, Steven King, Ramsey Campbell, and Peter Straub. This daring book has no qualms with taking you to the strange places in life, the unseen, the twisted. Any fan of excellent, descriptive, mind-bending horror fiction will find themselves snugly at home in BLOCKS OF COLOR.
Allred is a something of a Renascence artist. A poet, visual artist, comic writer, cartoonist, singer-songwriter, comedy improviser, and more, he narrowly avoids the cliche of being a "jack of all trades and master of none" by focusing his efforts first and foremost in the field of literary horror novels.

Recently, his first horror book TOMORROW I WILL KILL AGAIN has launched, and many other books are on their way, including BLOCKS OF COLOR, EYES OF THE ASPENS, and UN. He is also the author of the experimental sci-fi novel CAELEN AMERICA.
In the tradition of his favorite authors, he hopes to keep you up at night and give you something to think about.
Something is coming. Something bad. People are acting strange. Even homicidal. What's causing it? Who is causing it?
There are only a certain number of people who know what is coming. These few are asked to complete weird tasks to prepare for this pending invasion. But, will it really help? Are the townspeople doomed?
This book was suspenseful. The pace was slow for the most part, but not badly. Its slow pace gave me a chance to explore the characters in depth, rather than briefly skimming by them. As the mystery unraveled, people reacted differently; it was interesting.
The writing was also impressive, painting a picture, creating emotions, and producing superb tension.
Well before the climax, I was already nervous as to what could possibly be the answer to all the strangeness. The author does a great job of building everything up. But nothing could prepare for that ending.
Overall, an impressive book that is unlike anything I have read before.
