This book consists of four short stories: Grandma's Table, The Mask Makers, The Weaver's Gift, and Festival in Valencia.
Grandma's Table is my least favorite. It is by far the least culturally informative, it stretches believability when the grandma was able to successfully hide under the table which (based on the illustration) would not have blocked her from the schoolteacher's view, and I don't see how the granddaughter's claim that she doesn't enjoy school all the time would be taken as a joke. It just seems obviously true of any student. This story was a poor choice to include, especially as the first story in the book.
The Mask Makers, The Weaver's Gift, and Festival in Valencia are culturally informative. Children might find them a bit interesting even though the information has little practical value.
A variety of artistic styles are used in the pictures (even within individual stories), but I personally did not like any of them. The cover was more attractive to me. These styles do seem to be common in many children's books though.
