In the Footsteps of Francis and Clare

Rate this book
Ask anyone who has been there Assisi is a special place. The events in the lives of Francis and Clare seem to have charged the very rocks with a power that can still be felt today. Our guide, Father Roch Niemier, is intimately acquainted with the places so close to the saints of Assisi Rocca Maggiore, San Damiano, the Porziuncola, San Rufino, La Verna, Greccio, Maddalena, the Piazza Comune and the streets of Assisi. His exploration of the spirituality of place makes even the armchair pilgrim understand the meaning of these locales, and provides an unforgettable remembrance for those who have made the journey themselves.

Incredibly moving book. Read this if you are ever visiting Assisi. The visit will be so much more meaningful.

This book, for me, was hard to get into. Maybe because I wasn’t in Italy to experience what the author was describing. But, the closer I got to the middle... I was WOWED! Loved the theology behind Frances. The author did an excellent job of bringing Francians’ Rule to life. Not just back then; but, for now day! A book I will want to keep and reread certain chapters again. And if I ever get a chance to visit Italy, I’m taking the book with me to use as a tour guide.

Along with examining Franciscan spirituality, this book also describes the important places in the life of St. Francis. For those who have not made a pilgrimage to Assisi, this book is helpful in vicariously experiencing those places. My copy of the book spells the author's first name as "Roch" not "Rich".

A very interesting and moving book. Combining talking about important Franciscan sites, and reflections on the lives of Francis, Clare and what their experiences mean for us.
